Illuminate Down Hooded Jacket

The Illuminate Down Hooded Jacket is Outdoor Research's lightest puffy stuffed with 800-fill down insulation, making it exceptionally ideal for alpine missions with long approaches. The highest fill count around, 800-fill down insulation has a remarkable warm-to-weight ratio, meaning it's surprisingly warm for how light it feels. While it isn't the warmest option from Outdoor Research, the Illuminate is the lightest and most packable for faraway destinations.

  • Outdoor Research's lightest down jacket for alpine missions
  • 800-fill down insulation is warm, light, and packable
  • Ripstop shell is water- and wind-resistant
  • Elastic cuffs and adjustments at hood and hem seal out cold
  • Internal Shove-It pockets are large enough for gloves and beanies
  • Left hand pocket doubles as stuff sack for compact convenience

Warm, lightweight and a pretty good fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

Bought this jacket on sale 2 or 3 months ago and have been happy with it. Its comfy, light and warm for its weight. However it's not one of those super warm bulky down jackets... So in really cold weather it's more of a mid layer. The small fits me pretty darn good, but is a little tight in the shoulders and chest. This is pretty normal for me...if I buy a medium it fits in the chest and shoulders but is big in the waist and sleeves. So my point is that it's true to size. I would definitely recommend this jacket to those looking for a light weight jacket that is also a solid mid layer.

Perfect for everything

Are you trying to stay warm this winter? Do you want to look amazing while you do it? This insanely lightweight jacket is shockingly warm and incredibly packable. Truly, as an outdoors professional, I couldn't recommend this jacket more!

Losing a lot of feathers

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I purchased this jacket a few weeks ago anticipating it lasting me the winter but at the rate that the feathers are coming out this might not happen, I bought the jacket and noticed there was no down in the right cuff. I started using it, wearing it to school making sure it wasn’t snowing, and the down right where your arm bends is practically gone and has lost a large majority of loft.Whenever I put the jacket on I see one or 2 feathers flying around. I gave it 2 stars because the jacket it’s self is awesome! Just a shame the down comes out this fast.

Same issue here. Had it less than a week and noticing an alarming amount of feathers shedding from the lower waist. Super disappointing.

Perfect Light Down Insulator

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Tested this thing out for the first time last week while backpacking in some decent snowfall. Definitely to warm to wear while active in 15 degree weather, but its packs light and small into the left hand pocket, so is perfect to throw on when you stop for a snack or to pitch/break camp. You can feel a marked difference in warmth the second you put it on. Its going to be in my pack for every winter trip I take this year.

Epic

Love this Jacket!! Super high quality materials combined with excellent warmth and style. Very easy to layer. Aside from it being so comfortable you want to just take a nap in it, I would recommend to everyone.

Hey Nate!

Thanks for the great review! I'm a big fan of this down puffy as well. I'm actually using it this weekend.

Great lightweight puffy!!!

This is a great looking and very comfortable puffy from Outdoor Research! The extremely lightweight, yet warm, and water resistant jacket is not only comfortable for cold and windy days, it even stuffs into it's own pocket! This is a great feature for backpacking or stuffing the jacket away for colder days on a camping trip. I get lots of great comments on the looks! (juniper/basil) I'm hoping to see how warm it really is, but winter is progressing very slow this year ; ( I'll find out soon enough, but it will definitely fit under my shell for super cold days on the slopes. Love it!
