Cirque Softshell Pant

The Outdoor Research Cirque Softshell Pants are your go-to pants for all things alpine. Their tough, stretchy, and water-resistant fabric was made for your most rugged missions, whether they're in the shoulder season or the dead of winter. Abrasion-resistant performance and a movement-mirroring stretch  keeps them prepared for rugged alpine climbs, while articulated knees and a gusseted crotch increase your natural comfort and range of motion. You'll also be ready for backcountry ski tours thanks to the dedicated avalanche beacon pocket and durable scuff guards that resist damage from ski edges, boot rub, and poles. Comfortably breathable, stretchy, and tough enough for any adventure, these pants will soon be a part of your all-season kit.

  • Versatile softshell pants with all-season alpine performance
  • Tough fabric resists abrasion and stretches easily on tough climbs
  • Water-resistant performance protects from light rain and most snow
  • Articulated design reduces fabric resistance for easy movement
  • Avalanche-beacon pocket with clip keeps your beacon securely stashed
  • Scuff guards withstand wear and tear of rocks, ice, and ski edges
  • Adjustable waist tabs help you keep your fit comfortable and secure
  • Gusseted ankle zippers fit over different types of boots

Medium is 44" long

  • Size Bought: medium

As others have said, the only drawback is how long they are. I wear size 32x30 pants and these are a solid 5" longer. I'm 5'9" for reference. So if you're around 6'2" with a 32 waist, these should be perfect for you. Any shorter and they will bunch up below the knee. I really wish we had an inseam option, I'd be willing to pay extra for it

Aside from that, these pants are perfect for winter hiking. I went snowshoeing up a mountain in Maine, the temperature when I began was below zero. All I had on was lightweight synthetic long johns and I was fine while moving. Not even remotely cold.

Good fit, a bit long inseam

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

Really liked the fit of the pants. I just wish there's also the option to have a shorter inseam. Wore this pants on a weekend ice climbing and I really liked how it fits. With the 33in inseam, the pants basically looked pretty bunched up on my lower legs even when wearing boots. Also liked the waist tabs that really lets you dial-in the fit.

Good fit, a bit long inseam

Bomber Pants

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: medium

After hearing mixed reviews about the first model of Cirque's I was excited to try out the Cirque II's. I think these are my favorite mountaineering, ice climbing, and ski touring pant that I have owned thus far. The pant is a little high waisted which works well when wearing a harness. The reinforced inner ankles helps deter crampon cuts and being roughed up by ski boot buckles. The pants a very flexible and shed moisture better than I expected. I only wear a thin pair of long underwear underneath these pants when I am out ice climbing and they block out enough wind and cold to keep me nice and warm. These pants are slim fit for sure, but don't bother me with how much they stretch. If you don't like a fitted pant, I would recommend the OR Trailbreaker.

Thanks for the great review Zach! Really appreciate the insight on the performance of these pants.

Too long!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Large

These are pretty nice pants. Bought them for winter mountain hiking in the Adirondacks. Unfortunately I will be returning as they are just too long. I bought a size large and am 5'10" 195lbs. Fit great in the waiste though.
