Carbide Jacket offers waterproof, breathable protection with low-bulk performance for all-day riding

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"This jacket strikes that rare balance—light and packable but still tough enough for storm days. Whether I’m skinning up or lapping lifts, it holds up to the weather and vents heat fast when I need it."

From stormy resort days to deep backcountry tours, the Outdoor Research Carbide Jacket delivers proven protection without weighing you down. Its Pertex Shield 3-layer construction seals out wind and snow while staying breathable during high-output efforts like bootpacks or skin tracks.

A helmet-compatible Halo Hood provides visibility in sideways snow, while the powder skirt and fully sealed seams help lock out moisture on deep days. Zippered underarm vents let you dump heat fast, and the streamlined design layers easily over insulation for customizable warmth from first chair to last lap.

lacking features and design elements.

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I appreciated the color and fit however there are no wrist gaiters nor lining backing the pit vents. The jacket came zipped up but it was misaligned and very hard to unzip. Once the pit vents are opened, they are very tricky to close. And the stuff wire that holds up the chin guard was very uncomfortable. No matter what I did, the jacket tickled/rubbed my chin. Not well designed. I'll stick with my previous brand.

Almost perfect shell

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Waterproof and stretchy with a form fitting but fairly generous fit and all of the features. The Pertex is a bit thin but it still keeps wind and rain/snow at bay. The cut is a bit more generous than typical OR (a decent bit more room than a skyward shell in same size) so it’s easy to throw another layer underneath. If the powder skirt was removable this would be my go to rain jacket as well but it still works pretty well as a 4 season shell.
