Why We Like The Ourdoor Research Carbide Bib Pant

We appreciate the fact that Outdoor Research created the Carbide Bib Pants for some of the snowiest days of the year, and outfitted them with stylish Arcade belt webbing suspender straps. Waterproof, breathable protection comes in the form of fully sealed seams and a 3-layer Pertex Shield construction, while a multitude of pockets carries everything from our wallet and phone to trail maps and avalanche beacon. Plus, OR even gave these bibs a Swing Hatch to help us answer nature's call when we're in the middle of a powder run.

Quality product - annoying features

I got these bibs using a warranty credit for a pair of ski pants of the same weight. Unfortunately the pants had been discontinued so the closest thing that was available was this model of bibs. Pros: I've been skiing in them for a couple of months now at Steamboat. They are quite comfortable and dry with a polartec powerstretch fleece base layer under them. They are well constructed of quality materials. The pockets are deep and easy to access. Cons: 1. I really hate the side zip entry: a. It makes the bibs quite awkward to put on - the zipper is hard to reach with either hand. b. It requires unfastening one of the suspender straps and the buckles are difficult to fasten. c. It prevents you from ventilating and cooling off by opening zippers on your mid and base layer tops 2. The zipper fly is too short - it is difficult to do your business through this fly. 3. Lacks adequate pockets - one or two mid-thigh cargo pockets would really help A front access zipper would be a major improvement: 1. It would make them much easier to put on and take off 2. It would facilitate bathroom breaks 3. It would facilitate ventilation 4. If these bibs had a front access zipper, I'd really like them. With the current side access zipper I just barely tolerate them. I'd like to see them made from a slightly heavier fabric.

Do not rely on waist size, disappointing zippers

I purchased a pair of large because that is what my waist size determined, but the only thing that fit was the waist. I do not have abnormally sized thighs for my height/weight and the thighs were so tight that I could only get the zipper up with nothing on underneath (not the goal of a shell pant). Chest was also very tight - I fit, but not comfortably. Finally, I was disappointed that at the price point that the zippers are not water resistant (just covered by flaps). Any comparable bibs at this price point have water resistant zippers on the vents and side entry zipper.

Not durable but will keep you dry for a few uses.

I use this product as a ski patroller and the shell material is not durable for regular use. The transceiver pocket is a great idea however the exterior fabric is already breaking down around the silhouette of the transceiver which I carry every day for work after one month of use. I wish the shoulder straps were more adjustable or had a buckle

Maybe for spring, it winter

This bibs are lightweight, I will give them that. They pack down to virtually nothing. That is about all that is good about these. They are far from waterproof and those heavy snow 32° days, extremely tight around the thigh, and have started to pill all around after a tech wash and tech waterproofing treatment. These bibs won't keep you warm for anything. Whatever your base layer is, that is all the warmth you will feel.Expected better from my favorite outdoor brand.

i would not buy this product again

The bibs seemed like nice quality but sadly, the mens small were a bad fit. I'm 5'8" tall and 140 lbs. They were extremely big for me.

Great product

Great fitting. Waterproofing is perfect. Keep in mind though it's not too warm, which allows for you to choose your layers under the shell.

Quiver of One

This is my first ski bib and I love it! I've skied on resort in a blizzard and felt dry and warm with some good fleece base layers below. I just did my first backcountry tour in these, and with lighter base layers and open leg vents, these have good movement and heat regulation. The beacon pocket is improved from other models and the details on these bibs have been well thought out. I ride on and off piste approx 50 days a season and these will certainly be my go to. At 6ft & 175 lbs the medium size is just right for me.

Best Fitting and Most Comfortable Bib

This is the first pair of bibs that truly fit me perfectly and look great at the same time. The fabric sacrifices warmth for extremely great comfort and mobility. I highly recommend this for someone that skies hard and is fine with layering up. For sizing references, I am 5'8 155lb athletic build and the small in short inseam fit perfectly.

Tight Fit will only fit tall skinny people

I'd like to corroborate the odd sizing of these bibs. I stand at 5'10", have a robust build, and initially opted for a size L based on recommended guidelines. However, the large size I ordered was excessively tight around my abdomen. For those with a hearty 'beer belly', achieving a comfortable fit might prove challenging. Ultimately, I had to return them and opt for an XL, which then proved to be excessively long for my legs. I managed to use them for an entire season, but found the leg length resulted in inconvenient dragging. Aesthetically, the bibs are indeed attractive, but the range of sizes available needs to better accommodate different body types. Despite the issues, I decided to keep them since I cant return them now and will seek a more fitting pair next season.
