Osprey Packs Porter 65L Backpack

Load up and go.

Capacious enough to easily accommodate a week's worth of gear, the Osprey Porter 65 Backpack also is versatile and impressively mobile. You can stow the waist belt and shoulder straps to sling it over your shoulder in a mad dash from bus to plane, or don it like a full-on backpack for the long trek from gate A1 to gate Z99. Either way, you'll pass everyone with unwieldy cases as they impatiently fidget on the barely moving walkway or huff, puff, and curse over their belongings. With padded sleeves for your laptop and tablet, a generous bottom compartment, and sturdy compression wings, you'll be able to fit plenty of gear for your long transatlantic trips, without the stress of dealing with multiple tough-to-manage bags.

  • 420D nylon ripstop body

  • StraightJacket side and front compression wings
  • Front-panel access and large bottom pocket
  • Padded top and side carry handles

Great gift idea!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these pack for one of my friends and she uses it daily from going to vacations to Guatemala to going to class. She has had no problems with it and she loves it!

Functionally awesome!

I have only used this pack a couple times so far, but the capacity is awesome and yet can be compact when needed. The shoulder straps hide away easily and it has been perfect for my work trips. I've grown to love the Osprey brand packs having one for luggage, work/laptop bag and my hiking pick as well. Quality is top notch!

Todd, this is possibly one of my favorite Osprey bags! Love it for travel! Thank you for the great review -

    Sleek Design

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This pack is perfect for those 3-5 day trips to store all your gear and clothing. I especially loved the design of the pack and how you can stow away the straps. The front access panel made it super easy to grab gear and I would highly recommend. My only complaint is the waist belt, without any padding or cushioning it became uncomfortable at times after a long day of wearing with a heavily stuffed pack.

Hey Camilla, thanks for taking the time to write. If you are looking for a more detailed suspension (cushioning on the hipbelt, for example), you should consider the Farpoint from Osprey. The Porter is a great deluxe duffle that is wearable for quick situations. Definitely sounds like you would benefit from the Farpoint!

Thanks Leta. Given your response, am I to assume that the model Backcountry is selling is an older model than the one listed on the Osprey website, which clearly indicates there is a "Lower Zippered Compartment"?

This is indeed the current model for 2015/2016 season. On this duffle, there is an outside slash zipper, an organization zipper and a laptop sleeve zipper, but no lower zipper. Hope that helps!

Mark, thanks for chiming in. Steve, sorry I missed your follow up here!

    Happy New Year!

While it is not explicitly listed, can you confirm that this pack has a lower zippered compartment?

    Best Bag!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Took this bag on a month long backpacking tour across Europe. Stow-away backpack straps and waist belt is quick to pull out and stow away. Bag is super durable and very spacious.

This bag is phenomenal. Really - so glad you like it. I used the 46 and I couldnt be happier!

Does this have a strap so you can carry it like a duffel?

The Osprey Packs Porter doesn't have a shoulder strap to carry it like a duffel unfortunately. It does have 3 additional handles at the top, side and bottom of the bag to carry it. Here's a quick video on the bag if you'd like to see more of it.

Does this backpack conform to airline carry on luggage guidelines?

Hey Donald, Leta with Osprey here - technically no. The back panel (base) is too long. But it's little brother the Porter 46, works beautifully! I have seen packs the size of the Porter 65 get on flights before, but you can't count on them not busting you.

    Hope that helps!

    Amazing Bag!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this to my best friend as a birthday gift for her upcoming trip to Asia. Though I wish I hadn't seen it because now I want one for myself!

I use to sell this bag at retail stores and knew it would be a good bag for her needs (lightweight, padded, backpack straps that stow away, ample room). The new Porter is so much better than it ever was. Osprey has added tons of improvements to the bag and made it truly one of the best travel packs I've seen.

It now has great internal and external pockets. The front/outer packet opens and has room for accessories. Inside has better organized pockets and makes for easier packing. Still the same great Porter bag, but upgraded.

I will definitely be getting myself one for my next trip
