Upgraded after at least 8 years!

I have used the Osprey Astro regularly for the last 8-10 years and finally decided to upgrade to the magenta flapJill bag. After seeing that beautiful purple I started looking for an excuse. I got sick at the airport and three up on the Astro and the excuse was there! Love it, all the fbut nationality is the

How long is the shouler strap?

Great bag, but a little too bulky for me

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was looking for a messenger bag for school that would fit my stuff but not encourage me to schlep around more books than necessary (I'm an English PhD student). I also wanted something that fit my 14" laptop. I really liked this bag, but it was just a bit too bulky for my taste. I'm 5'6" and it felt a little too big to be carrying around everyday (though it would make a great weekend bag). Also, the velcro on the flap is annoying -- this bag shuts up tight; I was looking for something I could reach into easily on the go. Still, if they made a slightly smaller size -- in between this and the mini -- I would totally grab one, but this is uncomfortable for me to carry around all the time.

    Quality Messenger

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Perfect all in one bag for travel and/or use at school/work. It's heavy duty enough to keep items secure and protected without feeling too heavy/bulky. For a messenger bag, the size is perfect, and the easy adjustable strap helps keep it right where you want it positioned for comfort and look. It's extremely easy to keep items organized, especially school papers, laptops, tablets, notebooks, and so on.

Thank you for passing on the review, Matt!

could it hold a large (3") 3 ring binder and 13 inch laptop?

    Just what I needed!

I bought this to use exclusively for work. It is the perfect size for my laptop and other paperwork, clipboards, etc that I need to haul around. The strap is super comfy - I can sling it onto my shoulder or use it cross-body if I will be carrying other stuff too. The side pockets are great for stashing my charging cord too. I strayed from my usual grey or black and decided to be girly by going with the magenta. It's more on the hot pink side than I expected, but I can live with it. I have had it for about 6 months and use it at least 5 days per week and it shows no wear at all. I definitely recommend this bag for any business woman who needs to haul her office around with her!

Thank you Kelly! Enjoy your Flap Jill!

      Useful Messenger Bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this for my GF, and she really likes it. Lots of storage inside, and I think she'll get a lot of use from it. can hold her laptop, some files, phone, and her lunch... even could fit a water bottle in the side pocket.

Thank you for the review, Brian! Hope she continues to love it!

      Great Work Bag

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My old messenger bag was getting pretty beat up, so I decided to get a new one when I switched jobs. I wanted to keep it as small as possible since I really just need to carry a laptop, notebook, snack, water bottle, and a few extras (pens, wallet, chapstick, etc). This bag is great for that. It has a padded pocket for my computer, 1 external water bottle pocket, and a good-sized pocket area for all the extras. My only compliant is that I wish it had a pocket on the flap for quick access to my wallet/phone. They can obviously go in the pocket area, but it's under the flap so you have to unbuckle and hold the flap open while you unzip the pocket. The other option is the small pocket under the top handle. It's on top of the flap but it's a pain to put things in/take things out of it with the handle in the way. HOWEVER, I still like this bag enough to keep using it. The desert tan has a really cute teal liner fabric on the inside. And the bag itself is really light so your shoulder doesn't get tired just because of the bag. And the paddle shoulder strap is very comfortable.

Hi Carly, thank you for the great review and the excellent suggestion for improvement. Agreed!

      Many thanks,

This bag is for life if you want it to be. I got the desert tan color to match most everything. The insides are turquoise, so pretty! Very durable and lives up to its name. Super comfortable to wear even while carrying a laptop and 2 textbooks inside. Ive had it for about two months now.

      Wouldn't change a thing!

So much room! 2 water bottle holders on either side, several pockets, lots of features. Well made.

What I need in a bag

Full disclaimer: I am not intending on using this bag for outdoors-ing, but for office/business etc.

This bag is what it claims. Seems to be built from durable material, love the black color with teal accent (honestly, just girly "enough" for this life-long tom-boy who puts pragmatism above looks) and has great organization, most importantly for me a water bottle sleeve and an ability to get another small bottle of water in the zippered sleeve (yeah, I'm that person. I carry a lot of water.) I love the laptop sleeve but buyer beware: my 15" 2014 MacBook Pro fits like a glove, good luck if you think you're getting the 17" laptop in there as advertised.

I will admit I was a bit concerned with how big this bag would be on me considering it could actually fit my laptop and supposedly one larger, but thankfully it's not overbearing at all. I'm also transitioning from having been a backpack person to a more professional-looking messenger/courier bag so it's a little to get used to for me, but on my 5'6/5'7 frame this feels completely normal. I would think if you're more petite it might feel a bit large, but I would say for the average to tall girl it's going to be fine.

All in all, I think it's better than many competitors out there. I've had Timbuk2's before and never been that impressed for the price (perhaps because I am, as previously mentioned, a backpack person) but especially with this on sale this is a score for me and I imagine it would last for years to come.

Thank you so much for the great review!

Thanks for the great review! I am searching for something professional'ish but not work-issued-black to transport my 17" laptop back and forth to work. The search continues....
