Ortovox's versatile Tour Rider 28L S Backpack helps us pack for a variety of backcountry tours from pow days in low-angle trees to more exciting routes that require an ice axe. There are external attachments for skis, splitboards, tools, and helmets to leave room for layers, snacks, skins, goggles, gloves, and more inside. Top and rear access points grant easy access to gear whether we have planks attached to the pack or not. A separate compartment designed specifically for avalanche safety gear keeps our probe and shovel within reach.

Buy the Osprey instead
I really wanted to love this bag. The design is very well thought out, it had pockets and straps for anything you could need without being over complicated or having unnecessary straps dangling off you all the time. However, the durability sucks. I got a hole in the middle of one of the fabric panels on the backpack the very first day I used it (on a pretty gentle day trip too). To add to that, I contact Ortovox warranty service to see if they could offer any solutions and they said that from their experience, I must have snagged the backpack on something to cause the hole and therefore it wasn't eligible for any warranty claims, but they could send me a stick on patch to repair. As if the backpack shouldn't be able to withstand a few tree branch snags anyway? I'll patch the hole on the backpack and hopefully get another season or two of use out of it, but this is such a far fry from the quality and service I've come to expect from other manufacturers. I've put my Osprey hiking backpack through far worse abuse over the years and it still looks brand new, I should have just stuck with Osprey for a ski touring pack too.
