Omega PacificOval Screw-Lock Carabiner

Round is the new black.

Strength and safety come first when dealing with climbing gear, which is why Omega Pacific made the Oval Screw-Lock Carabiner. Using an exclusive cold forging process, Omega Pacific blessed this ‘biner with some burly numbers, namely a major axis strength rating of 22kN and minor axis strength rating of 8kN, which are unusually high in the Oval world. So lock up this bad boy and rap, whip, or send in safety and with the full knowledge that you have worthy gear.

They are alright

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up a couple to build top ropes or to bail off of, so I didnt really have a high expectation for these. The gate retraction of the biner is a bit disappointing, and doesnt feel as smooth as other biners I have used. But all in all they are good for the price.

This is my least favorite carabiner probably, but that's okay because all I use it for is attaching to a pulley so that I don't crossload it. In this regard, it works great (and you really probably do want an oval 'biner if you're clipping into a pulley), but I wouldn't use it for much else. It feels kind of cheap and not very smooth (although I'd certainly "trust" it to hold me). It doesn't open very wide and doesn't always screw super silky smooth like some of my other carabiners. It's a bit ugly too honestly. But all in all, for the price, I think it's a really good oval locker.

Oval still a great design

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Used this a biner numerous times and feel the oval gives longer service due to larger space for rope where. You have both sides that can equally take wear. It is especially beneficial as your anchor in top rope applications.
Threads are well machined and twist is smooth even when things get gritty.

Strong and lightweight

Like David said, I keep a few of these with me at all times. I use them on my ENO hammock to strap to trees. I use them on my rig at work. I use them for just about anything that I need a snaplink for. Can lock or unlock them one handed and theyre knurled enough to use with heavy gloves.

Another great purchase

I used to be a rope certified rescue paramedic and have used these for my rig. I cannot climb anymore due to a knee injury, but I like to keep a couple of these handy for odds and ends. Light, strong, durable- I keep 2 snapped onto my back all the time. I have found they are great for using with a set of straps to hang a hammock!
