NorronaRøldal Gore-Tex Insulated Jacket - Men's

Insulated and waterproof for cold, wet days at the resort.

Norrona's philosophy to make clean, sleek, minimal products with all the critical details is obvious in its Men's Roldal Gore-Tex Insulated Jacket. is the exclusive US retailer for Norrona products too, so you can hit up Bohemia in Michigan, Stowe in Vermont, or Tahoe in California and not see your jacket-twin everywhere. The Roldal's Gore-Tex shell gives this jacket guaranteed waterproof protection that remains breathable, so you stay dry in bad weather and comfortable when there's nothing but a sunny sky overhead. Norrona also stuffed this jacket with soft and supple PrimaLoft Infinity insulation that warms you up while remaining incredibly light and compressible.

A more athletic fit pulls the Roldal close to your body without restricting the movement you need for mogul runs and skate-skiing across the flats, and a longer cut gives you move coverage. The powder skirt blocks snow when you're floating through waist-deep fluff, and you can remove it when you don't need it. Underarm venting lets out some steam when you work up a sweat, and its mesh lining prevents any snow from slipping in when you have the zippers open. The hood can slide over your helmet or cinch tightly across your head to protect you from snowy conditions. Inner hand gaiters with thumbholes keep you hands warm as well as keep the sleeves in place.

The best

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XXL

Before I start to state how incredible this jacket is let me start by talking about the fit. I wanted a baggy large inbounds pow day jacket that would last. The XXL is perfect for that. It's longer than most while still not being a trashbag. Let's be honest, if you're shopping or ordering an XXL in America you're not likely doing sporting activities, thus the slimmer cut. The zippers have been more than well thought out in the sense big zippers on likely used pockets and small on lesser (pass holder pocket). This jacket has been to Chile, ak, Japan, lived in Tahoe, and bc. It has more than excelled in all of these places on colder days. It is insulated but not so much that you sweat with a single base layer on regardless of Temps. On pow days in Tahoe I ski in a light base layer Nd flannel while wearing this. I've got a shell for warmer days but anything below 25F I'm stoked to bust this out. Would give it 6 stars if I could. Likely replacing my shell with the non insulated version. The fabric is bombproof too. Just incredible, even after 150+ days over 3 seasons.

Look The Part

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: XXL

As I approach middle age, my mid life crisis has led me to snow boarding. This is my fifth year on the board and progress has been made. Therefore, it was time to look the part. If I can not be an accomplished snowboarder at least my jacket will allow me to look the part. Stylish, durable, sleek and dry, this jacket has taken it falls with me on rugged and steep terrain; and had proven its medal. In all weather conditions it withstood Maine’s fickle weather patterns while boarding in the White Mountains. This is the second jacket I purchased @ Backcountry and their selection and expert advise keeps me coming back. The jacket is a little large as I purchased an XXL , But I prefer a looser fit. It is warm, comfortable and makes me look good; at least when I am off the board. I am heading to Snowbird where it is my hope to run into Lindsey Vaughn; as we both have many things in common, among them, broken limbs and concussions. If my swarthy good looks will not impress her, no doubt my Norrona jacket will.... until I show her my snowboarding skills. In all, a great jacket from a great site..... Backcountry!!!!!!

What wind?

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: X-Large

This jacket is awesome!! Recently purchased this jacket, but I have already worn it enough times to know that this was a great buy. Riding up on a chairlift during a snowstorm with wind and I can't feel a thing. Its very well put together, great ventilation with a nice clean look. A must buy for anyone looking for a longer jacket that can keep up with the elements.

Im 6'0...155...I ordered Medium and am 100% stoked...Fit is great, a bit loose, thats how the cut on this coat is...Its tough and warm...Been used 7 days in Montana, from 0%-30s...Its warm, no worries with a base layer, I wear base and a polartec...Way warm...Tough as nails too, took some heavy tree use and shows no signs of wear...

Great Jacket - Warm, Functional, Stylish

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I bought this jacket originally in a large. I have a 37" waist and when I would sit down the jacket would become tight. So I returned it and got the XL which is a perfect fit for me. When my wife found out that I bought a jacket that was $660 she almost threw me out of the house. But I explained its quality and she at least let me sleep on the couch for a night.

About Me -

Expert Skier - mostly rides Midwest but I go to Colorado a few times a year and hike for deep snow. Diamonds are not just a girls best friend - the black and double blacks call my name

Big boned, big legs - could stand to lose some weight but athletic

Warmth -

Very warm jacket. I agree with the other reviewers - above 25 you prob only need a short sleeve. I recently rode at Abasin in Colorado. It was 12 with 25MPH winds. There was also 8-14" of freshies that was spraying everywhere when I rode. No snow in coat with snow skirt buttoned. I wore a under amour base layer and a normal long john cotton material over it and I was toasty. There are nice side vents that are long enough to let some breeze flow through. I live in Indiana and I recently skied at Perfect North - It was 26 and I was taking my 5yr old daughter skiing. I wore a short sleeve tee shirt. Got hot from carrying her, moving her, skating - opened the side vents and cooled back down.

Features -

It has the integrated hand sleeves that keep snow out. I was skeptical at first of this but now I really enjoy it and when paired with my Marmot Big Mtn gloves my hands were toasty.

I like the attached goggle wipe that is the in chest pocket.

The hood creates a little gore tex bungalow when pulled up over my POC helmet.

Very waterproof and wind does not cut through it.

Pockets are lined with so when waiting to get gloves on or just hanging out they keep your hand warm.

Zipper is on 'wrong' side if you are used to American products but that is fine because it stimulates your brain.

Tons of pockets including a goggle sleeve.

Powder Skirt is nice - buttons right up. Would integrate to Norrona Pants (I have ArcTeryx)

Pros -

Straight legit AF!!! Great coat. Very well made.

Warm, Waterproof, Windproof

Durable big zippers

One of the pockets has a water resistant zipper (outside on chest)

Long length

Super Hood

Snow skirt, snow skirts in sleeves for hands

Pockets Everywhere

Side Vents

There are Velcro fasteners on the cuffs of the sleeves but I like them fully extended so they fit over my gauntlet gloves and with the hand skirts you don't need to cinch them down

Hood has fabric that is kinda like a door seal to keep wind and snow out when it is over my helmet

Hood stays up when coat is fully zipped even when windy

Not Bulky

Good arm movement

No one else has this jacket on the mountain

Cons -

You can only get the hood up over your helmet if you unzip your coat about 10 inches

No elastic to cinch the hood (but see above in pros that hood stays up when coat is zipped up)

If hood is up, coat is zipped up and you are wearing a face sock, if you are a mouth breather your goggles will fog because the hood is so encapsulating (also a pro)

Not a lifetime warranty (but the jacket seems really well made)

If you are not wearing a head sock there is Velcro in the hood that kinda scratches your neck. Maybe I can fold onto itself to avoid this. Not a big deal but I was not expecting this. Really have not tried to remedy it.

Blue color shows dirt grease (Not the coats fault, I chose the color)

Cost (but you pay for quality)

Overall, I am very happy with this coat. I had looked at other Arcteryx and Millet Jackets. This coat is comparable to all high end coats that are out there. I do like some of the coats that have zippers that are bright colors but that is not enough for me not like this coat. I have a few cons but they are also not enough to rate this coat lower than 5 stars. I look forward to seeing how this coat performs in super wet conditions but I think it will be great. Thanks Norrona

Great Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Small

In my second season now and I love this jacket. It is fairly warm, I normally only wear a long sleeve base layer (under 25 degrees) or even just a short sleeve (above 25 degrees). The jacket is very well ventilated so I don't find this to be a problem at all. The pockets and zippers are very functional and it has a super clean look. Note that this a longer parka style jacket and I found that the small fit me better (normally a medium).

Wondering if this jacket would be too warm to wear in warmer weather?

Max, It depends on a lot of factors-- how much you perspire during aerobic activity, what sort of base/midlayers you wear, and what you mean by "warmer" weather, so it's tough to say-- feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss more in depth! I'd be happy to help.

This is a beautiful jacket

It is warm, like t-shirt under it in 10 degree temps warm. It is well built. It is very waterproof. Its amazing.

What is the length like?

Hi Janet,
This is a longer, parka length Snowboard Jacket with great versatility as an everyday insulated jacket.

Norrona Gearheads,
When will the other colors be coming in / will the other colors be available? The only reason I'm not asking about size as well is because I happen to be a size small.

Hey Stuart,

We have more sizes arriving in Caviar and Hot Sapphire (blue) any day now. Feel free to contact me directly with any more questions about Norrøna.
