Made from a breathable stretch softshell fabric, these pants offer enhanced mobility to keep you moving comfortably whether you're hiking through thick forests or rugged alpine passes. • Flex1 softshell fabric offers breathability and mobility
  • Hook-and-loop adjustable waist system
  • Ankle zippers adjust to fit boots

Love these pants so much. So much thought was put into everything. I've worn them to do the 3 passes trek in Nepal (including a stop at Everest basecamp), backpacking in New Zealand, and countless weekend excursions.
My favs include:
-Stretch fabric! These are more comfortable than pajamas.
-Built in gaiter hooks.
-Narrow fit on the legs, BUT, you can unzip one of the leg zippers for a wider leg if needed. Hard to explain, but one zipper on the leg is to actually unzip it, the other zipper is to make the pant leg wider while still keeping the pant leg enclosed.
-Velcro waist adjustment are real-world functional unlike the POS waist hooks they use on the non-zip version.
-Belt loops! In addition to a built in velcro belt, you can still use your own belt. Great for leatherman, pocket knife, or any other accessories that work better on an actual belt
-Excellent pockets including a rear pocket. So nice not to carry my wallet/passport in the front pockets.

Overall a great pant. They are lightweight, so I'd recommend for summer, fall and spring only.
I have a 34-35 inch waist with a ~33 inseam (I'm 6'0

Well made but with issues

The first time I thru hiked the LT I used an old pair of Mountain Hardware zip off pants which were really convenient if not a bit nerdy looking. Since then I generally wear shorts or pants but have not used zip-offs. I'm pretty thin and wear small from most makers and these in size small fit me well. These are very nicely made pants. They look pretty nice too though that's not that much of a consideration when I'm backpacking. My main problem is that they weren't very comfortable. The zipper around the thigh that allows the legs to zip off had no fabric between it and your skin so they rubbed uncomfortably. They also lack normal side pockets that you can put your hands in which is a bummer if you want to warm up your hands or just have something easily accessible without unzipping a zipper. The velcro adjustment was kind of good but bulky. For me they had far too many zippers and snaps. I like well designed functional gear that has just what's needed and not much else. These had much else...

Bottom line, though, was that the lack of comfort had me send them back. If you're hiking 15 miles you can't have zippers or seams in the wrong places.

Very nice

I am a 34 waist in jeans/shorts and loved my Bitihorn Flex1 (non convertible version) so much that i decided to give the convertible pants a try bc I wanted a blue or khaki pair and the regular Bitihorn Flex in blue were not in my size and there was no khaki option.

Even though I was a medium in the others, it was not even close. in these, i there is zero chance of a medium fitting more than a 32 waist - not a chance. After returning my first pair to get a Large I am very happy with the fit. I am 6'1 and 100% these have an extra inch or so of length that i don't need, so if you are taller than i am this may be helpful. In the traditional pair, in Medium, the length was perfect but would have been too short for someone taller than I am.

The features that convinced me to buy these (bc i am biased against convertible pants) are: 1) I love my traditional, Bitihorn Flex1, pants so much; and 2) you can take the pant leg off without taking off your shoes which is one of the reasons i have always hated convertible pants.

the other difference from the traditional bitihorn flex1 pants is that these have two cargo pockets (one on each leg) rather than just the one, and i think these cargo pockets are bigger, though i am not certain.

i will be keeping these and i will try to remember to update this review after i have used and washed them a few times.

I hope this was helpful.

So i wanted to give a review so at least people can get a better idea on sizing.
i am a 34 waste (closer to a 33 than a 35) and i have a different kind of Norrona Flex pants that i wear a size Medium and i therefore just assumed i was a Medium in these. I could not even almost close the pants around my waste. Based on review i am assuming the Large would fit but even then i can't imagine it being a loose fit. Otherwise the fit and finish of these pants is top notch and i am extremely excited for them to arrive. I will update this as soon as i have the Large in hand and get a chance to try them out

Far and away the best hiking pants

  • Fit: True to size

These pants are amazing.

Slim fit. Most hiking pants I've seen are baggy. I have a pair of Kuhl Renegades and while the shorts are great, as pants they are very loose and I'm always afraid they're gonna get caught on something. Plus the slim fit is more stylish.

Lightweight but durable. Just over 12 oz, these feel very light and the material is somewhat thin. However, it seems like incredibly durable fabric. It is a little bit less stretchy than my Renegades but it is still comfortable to wear. Some testing in the field is needed here.

1. Velcro adjustment is great. Basically removes the need to wear a belt, and makes for a one-size-fits-all.

2. Zippered pockets. All the pockets are zippered, meaning if I stash something away while scrambling up a rock or lying down, I'm never afraid it's going to fall out. It isn't uncomfortable to stick your hand into the pocket with the zipper edges either.

3. Adjustable ankle width and built in gaiters. Not only does this make it so I can carry 1 less item (though full on gaiters is probably still a bit better than this), I can get that slim tapered look while still wrapping the pant cuff around my shoes. Great design.

4. I can take off the bottom portion without taking off my shoes!! Having tried many convertible pants, this was by far the most annoying thing. The side zipper shows some great thoughtfulness on Norrona's part.

All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better design. The pants are a little long-while this makes the cuff act nicely as pseudo gaiters, it is not a great fit for anyone who has shorter legs.

Best convertible pants I've seen

30yo male

5'11", 165lbs, long, lean, lanky, broad shoulders.

Tops: small, chest 36-38", neck 15.5", sleeve 34.5"

Jeans: 30x32, dress pants: 32x32.

These are by far the best convertible pants I have tried and it all comes down to the fit. I am the kind of person who likes everything tight and fitted. When it comes to bottoms, i was thrilled when skinny jeans came into vogue and only wear boot cuts that have some considerable flare and cut close in the thigh. And spandex/stretch is my best friend.

When it comes to hiking pants, the Prana Wyatt has long been my favorite fit (read: only). I like to wear athletic leggings as well. With shorts, I am more flexible and have enjoyed the Patagonia Belgrano and Prana Brion. I have been looking for the right convertible pant for some years now without luck. I have previously tried on the Prana Stretch Zion, Outdoor Research Ferrosi, Patagonia Quandary, and REI/Columbia models of convertible pants but found all to be unsatisfactory. Many of those met my wants in the shorts but were too baggy as a pant.

The Bitihorn really are a game changer for me. The quality is immediately obvious and features well thought out. The fabric is thin but not overly so with the right amount of stretch for all the movements my legs are capable of. I would say very similar to Prana's stretch Zion fabric, maybe a touch tougher. The waist adjustments are fantastic and better than any found on other zip-off options. I will say the waist seems a bit tighter than what I had expected (a small was doable but created some bunching and an unflattering muffin top, and was exchanged for a medium). The shorts fall just above my knee where I like them for hiking (I'd venture to say 10" inseam?) and are fitted all the way through with a nice butt silhouette. The pockets are all zippered and horizontal to safeguard your valuables on the trail. The "cargo pocket" on the right thigh even has a smaller compartment for better organization. I believe the company intends it for a phone. It is nice that all pockets fall behind the main face of the short rather than on top. The hand pockets have a light yet sturdy mesh and the cargo ones are backed with the same material as the face.

The trim continues to the ankle and with the hem adjustments as tight as possible, wrap the cuff of my boots perfectly but also work well with low top crosstrainers. Even at it's loosest, the fit is a nice taper from top to bottom. I doubt these could fit over ski boots but that is something I am unlikely to test. There are two zippers at the pant hem, one which comes up to mid-calf to open up the ankle, and one which rises all the way to the shorts hem zipper and allow you to remove the bottom portion without losing the footwear. Anyone should be able to appreciate this feature out on the trail. Lastly, there are snaps at the pant hem to keep everything in place. Oh, and I should mention the bootlace gaiter hooks to keep the leg down at all times. The length is pretty perfect for me but i think men under 5'8" need not apply as the cuff cannot be mended

Overall, easily the most thought out and stylish convertible pant that I have come across. I believe they are well worth the premium price tag. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. In fact, this was my first piece of Norrona gear and I am now looking to them for winter pants.

The only improvement I can muster would be making the zipper from pant hem to short hem a two way zipper to double as a vent.

Oh, and the Space color way is way tasteful and I don't doubt the Bedrock is as well. I would not rule out purchasing them in the future.

Very versatile

These pants are stretchy and very breathable. They have a back pocket too which is not mentioned. You can also adjust the waist with the straps they have (I normally wear 31, ordered the medium and fits great; I guess the sizing chart is a little off). The fabric is strong and can withstand tress, branches and rocks.

    Pretty much aweasome

Great, pretty similar to the stoic overhang fabric, breathable, good weight and stretchy fabric, cant go wrong
