A liter for each pitch.

Your expedition pack may have assisted you from the trailhead to basecamp, but it's the Mystery Ranch Pitch 17 Backpack that sticks with you while you climb the last several thousand feet to the summit. Mystery Ranch designed this pack to rest over your harness and climbing gear so it doesn't interfere with the ascent. As Mystery Ranch's smallest pack in the Pitch collection, this backpack boasts a capacity suitable for layers, food, and some climbing gear. Its fabric is water-resistant for climbing in light rain, but it's also light and compact for easy packing in expedition packs or sleds.

  • Day pack for summit ascents on multi-day alpine adventures
  • Minimal harness accommodates harness and climbing gear
  • Wide roll-top access for secure, compact closure

Mystery Ranch Bags On A Different Level

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Superior design mixed with bomber materials and constuction at a low price. I wanted a low maintenance hybrid city/day pack and this is it. Even though its a 17L, it seems big. Can fit a laptop with plenty of room to spare. And adequate capacity for a full day in the backcountry, packing layers. Could double as a great rope bag, as well. Front exterior pocket is large enough for a 40 ounce water bottle. And top internal pocket is big, will fit a phone, wallet and sunscreen. Key loop would have been nice in here. All the straps and buckles fit and function as well as they should for a one size fits all build. Next level rolltop takes a bit more time than a zipper would, but appreciate the minimalist design. Its not a cutesy, hipster rolltop. With only the 2 aux zippers and no velcro, this bag should last a lifetime or two.

Thanks for the great review, Tommie! Glad to hear you're stoked on Mystery Ranch also!

Great day pack

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Comfortable, simple, high quality day pack. I’m a petite female and the pack still felt comfy on my frame once adjusted. Roll top is a nice feature for quick access and hydration sleeve accommodated a 3L bladder. Front outside pocket is roomy enough for snacks, phone and/or a light layer. Fabric feels highly durable.

Will this hold a 2.5 water liter reservoir?

Hey Donna - You can fit most 2.5L reservoirs in the hydration sleeve of this Pitch 17L Backpack although it is a tight fit. What brand is your reservoir? I will shoot you an email so feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions.
