When every ounce counts.
Minimalist backpackers and ultralight enthusiasts will appreciate the simple and lightweight design of the MSR Thru-Hiker Tarp. The Thru-Hiker comes in two sizes with the smaller 70 Wing option capable of sleeping two to three people and the larger 100 Wing option capable of comfortably sleeping three. The non-freestanding design means you'll need to either set the tarp up with trekking poles, accessory poles (sold separately), or between trees, but you'll still be snug as a bug in a rug, even if the weather gets unpleasant, because the tarp is made from lightweight 20D ripstop nylon that has been treated with a Durashield coating, which repels water. You can also pitch your tarp above MSR's Thru-Hiker Mesh House (not included) when bugs are an issue. The best part of the Thru-Hiker is it weighs right around a pound and packs down small, so you'll hardly notice it in your pack when you set out to beat your own personal record on the JMT or Pacific Crest Trail.
