The apex of backpacking comforts.

Pack a week's worth of camping gear into Mountainsmith's Apex 80 Backpack for a much-needed reprieve from city life. Its suspension system features a well-ventilated Anvil Airway back panel made of cushy EVA, a supportive PE framesheet, sturdy aluminum stays, padded shoulder straps with adjustments, and a form-fitting TuningFork waistband for comfort on the approach.

The Apex is a traditional top loader with a detachable SlingShot lid that doubles as a daypack. There's an internal sleeve and port designed for hydration reservoirs, as well as a zippered bottom compartment for sleeping pads. Mountainsmith designed the waistbelt's pocket for smartphones as large as the Galaxy S6. The Apex also has a front mesh stash pocket for layers, and a side pocket for water bottles.

Back on the Trail...

Fit was perfect. Comfortable for the 20 mile 3 day backpacking trip on the Manistee River/North Country Trails in upper MI. It fit everything from my cook stove to clothes to food to hammock (yes we LOVE hammock camping) sleeping bag & other misc necessities, w/o having to strap stuff to the outside or sides. Just wish the water bottle side pockets were reachable when the pack was on my back.

    Get a bag that can!!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased pack as a replacement pack for Glacier National Park next month, theres a park near where I live called Crowders Mountain State Park it's a strenuous trail to the top and I've been going there everyday and everyday I go I've loaded down this pack training for harder Trails it has been great so far compared to my old pack this pack is a part of your back after you get it adjusted properly (which takes a little time) it's an extension of your body and it moves when you move it has great vents on the back 4 airflow and convenient hip pockets I've love this bag so far and highly recommend it, it won't break the bank like a 500 hundred dollar Gregory but it will still get the job done all while being efficient and durable

    Great Features

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This backpack isn't like your father's or grandfather's pack, this is loaded with all the gear features one has come to expect from Mountainsmith. Very well thought out, very well built and last but not least it carries a heavy load with the most comfort of any pack I have put on my back. Excellent pack, sturdy and ready for anything you can throw in it!

Took this pack on my kids first overnight backpacking trip - so I ended up carrying most of their gear. The Apex has great load carrying ability. I really liked the waistbelt and back panel, Mountainsmith really out did themselves here. The Apex also has very well thought out pockets and access panels - easy to unload and pack. The harness adjustment was straight forward to use for my initial adjustment. I just really liked this thoughtfully designed pack and the price was awesome for what I got.
