It Stretches!

  • Size Bought: Large

This jacket has some serious stretch! It is super warm and comfortable. Very easy to use for activity. After reading previous reviews, I sized up. However, I found it a little big. I would say stick to your normal size with this one.

Amazing jacket!

I gave this as a gift and she loves it! She was a little hesitant when she first put it on because the material was pretty stiff but after a few wears, the down and fabric softened up and it fits perfectly. It’s very comfortable and fits true to size with enough room for some layers, but still isn’t too big without layers underneath. The sleeves are a little long (she’s 5’3”) but the elastic around the cuff is perfect to scrunch up on her wrists. She’s worn it is as low as 20-25 degrees with a fleece underneath and it kept her warm. It’s a versatile jacket and she wears it hiking, skiing and even around town on a cold or snowy days.

Great Gift

Got this jacket for my mom as a gift for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. It has a sporty look and is super warm. She did say that where the sleeve comes into the body of the jacket it can be a little tight, but it isn't something that's too hard to get used to. She's 5'6" and a pretty slim woman and the medium is a pretty snug fit, so if you're debating between two sizes I'd highly suggest going with the larger one.

A Gift Worth Giving

I bought this jacket several months ago to give as a gift for my wife. I was a little nervous about the fit based on the reviews of others. I went ahead and sized up from a small to a medium as the other reviews said the fit ran small. My wife is 5'2 with an athletic build and the coat fits her perfectly. She likes that it comes down to her butt to keep it warm (covers about half way). The Stretchdown material is great as well. Feels very durable unlike other puffy's I've had. I have no doubt that at 750 fill this will keep her very warm.

This jacket is perfect!

I ordered the stone green color in medium. It is snug around my shoulders, but most things are due to my broad shoulders. Description says it runs small, but I think a large would’ve been too big. I let my mother borrow it and now she wants one! She’s same weight as me but a little shorter. Fits great on her. The warmth is unbelievable! I love this jacket! Beautiful color, comfortable, and keeps me plenty warm. I also love that it doesn’t look too bulky on. I’m buying another one for Mom.

Stretchdown in action

It actually fits!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am a 5'7" and 110 lb full grown athletic adult, but finding appropriate clothing for my age is so difficult because clothes are getting bigger and sizes are smaller (20 years ago I wore a size 8, now I wear a 0-Tall). Adult clothes are made for short people but not tall slender people. I ordered an XS and I got a jacket that fits in the torso AND the sleeves!! I suppose according to most clothing this season the jacket runs a little small. This jacket is keeping me warm because its made with quality materials and I am not swimming in it. I may order another color before next years' model gets bigger.

I've had my eye on this puffy for almost a year now, and finally decided to go for it! I am EXTREMELY happy with it, and I like the updated look with this season's colors. I wanted this just in time for winter. It is probably the most comfortable down puffy I've put on, and I tried tons. I'm kind of a meticulous researcher, one of those shoppers who will look into almost everything pretty in depth before purchasing and this jacket fit the bill! It's warm, light, and comfy! I like that it has a matte finish that is not shiny like a lot of other down jackets, and it isn't too bulky either. I've gotten compliments that it is flattering too, not too boxy but still roomy enough for me. The water resistance on the outer layer is amazing, plus MH added their Q Shield down which means the down itself is protected so that even if it gets wet you stay insulated! And I've got enough room to fit a thin fleece under for those freezing days.

The fit was a bit weird at first but now I'm used to it and don't have a problem. I've got kind of broad shoulders in comparison with the rest of my torso so the Medium feels a bit tight across the shoulders, but the stretch of the jacket means that even if it feels a bit tight I still have full mobility. I've heard some people say MH makes tiny arms with material being restricting in the armpits, but I think they addressed that well in this new jacket because the armpits were very roomy. MH has had a reputation in the past of leaking feathers in some of their down jackets, but I spoke with a MH representative who said they addressed this issue in the new Stretch Down line by reinforcing the baffling, tightening the thread weave and making the down less apt to leak, so I am pretty confident it won't happen with this jacket. But you know, if it does MH has that excellent lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects so I'm not worried :)

This is probably going to be my go-to jacket for every day wear this winter , belaying, and some light hikes. It is an excellent outer layer due to the water-resistance. It can be a great midlayer for skiing too, though it's a bit warm for my liking to use skiing under my shell since I tend to run hot, but it certainly has the mobility to function that way. Over all it's a great, well-rounded down layer for those snowy altitudes!

My New Favorite Puffy!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I'm always looking for jackets that will do well for climbing and so far this one has been great! I love the stretch that allows me to move around without the jacket feeling tight around my shoulders or chest. That being said, I'm usually a size small in women's jackets, but I've had trouble in the past with the shoulders being a little tight with MHW jackets. I chose to go with the Medium for this one and it's been perfect! It feels slightly long in the body but that just provides a little extra coverage so I don't mind. There is also plenty of room for layering underneath while still being perfect for under a shell. It's also incredibly lightweight which I love because it doesn't feel bulky or cumbersome when I'm wearing it. So far, one of the best puffy jackets I've owned and I'm stoked to wear the heck out of it this winter!

I've seen a few in-depth reviews about how the older model of this jacket will self-store in one of the pockets. Can the newer model do this as well? Looks like a great jacket either way!

Unanswered Question

is this jacket packable? does it have a stuff sack or packable pocket?

Love it!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have the hooded version, but they're the same jacket. I originally purchased the small, and it was a bit tight in the shoulders, so switched it out for a medium. Perfect! I love the blue color. The material is soft and stretchy, so it moves with you well. The sleeves are the perfect length, and this is my new go to puffy!

Arms too tight for sweater underneath

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Size Bought: Large

I have really loved my older Mountain Hardwear down jacket, but I ended up returning this one because though I liked it in general, I like to layer with it and sometimes where it over a bulkyish sweater. This year's model was tight on the arms not allowing space for me to where a sweater under the coat so I was forced to return it.. I do really like a warm down coat that does not have a hood, so I loved that aspect of the coat. The black color and matt finish was nice too.

Broad Shoulders Delight

This coat is amazing. For the longest time I had been in search of a down coat that fits broader shoulders. With a dash of stretch this coat is PERFECT. You can hug people without turning your coat into a vest with detached sleeves.

As for warmth, this coat is nice and toasty. Pair it with a shell and you have a winner for hiking or snowboarding on a cold day.

Pockets are at a good height in relation to the coat. In the works of putting it through the wringer, so will update if needed.

Athletic build with the goofy big shoulders to smaller waist ratio. Cut of the coat fits pretty well without being too obnoxious in the waist / hip area. There is a waist bungee if you need to snug it up even more.

Thanks for the awesome review Alicia!

Great gift!

I gave this as a gift recently and couldn't be happier. The sizing was spot on and the Stretchdown material is great. it even packs down relatively small for throwing in a pack or day pack in shoulder seasons.

Is this jacket supposed to be able to fit into its own pocket?

    Revolutionary!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This jacket is my newest winter staple. It is so warm without being restricting. The stretch down really is as revolutionary as it sounds. I spend my days giving myself big bear hugs in this jacket and being constantly impressed with how much it can stretch. The color, I have the scarlet red, is beautiful, but I've also seen the black and navy in person, and they're beautiful as well. The fit is amazing. I have big hips and I'm always worried about being able to zip up jackets, but the stretch helps this be a comfortable and flattering shape for just about every body type. Not your average "puffy jacket".

Finally, a down jacket that moves with you. I wear it when I'm out running errands, but I will admit, if I were to do anything crazy active, I would probably sweat to death. For normal use, it's great. Might not be the most breathable for long, strenuous hikes.
