An explosion of warmth and waterproof wonder.

Blast off the chairlift in Mountain Hardwear's Snowburst Insulated Cargo Pant for Women. Equipped with a Dry.Q Core membrane, the Snowburst keeps water out and lets internal moisture escape for waterproof breathable protection. Fully taped seams make sure a single snowflake doesn't seep through the fabric for extra protection. Thermal.Q Elite insulation mimics the lofty nature of goose down even though its a stay-warm-when-wet synthetic.

Mountain Hardwear placed a zipper at each inner thigh for ventilated airflow, and the zippered cuffs allow easy access to the protective boot gaiters. The Ambush edge guards protect the cuffs from ski edges and other sharp objects, and adjustable tabs at the waist ensure a secure fit regardless of how many layers you have on that day.

huge bells a bottom!!!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: xl

i spend some bitter cold nights playing patient for ski patrol training, so these pants are the right warmness, however the bells at the bottom are huge!! altho they don't look so bad when I put my snowboard boots on. am returning them, the waist is a bit high and large. I'm pear shaped, so small waisted. I'm 5'5" and about 160 lbs, got sz xl so that I can multi layer up for those bitter nights. the fit, except for the waist is nice and they should be warm

Sizing

Absolutely loved the design and color, but the sizing is way off. Order a size below what you'd normally take.

    My new go-to pants!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Thanks so much to Mountain Hardwear and Backcountry for teaming up with me so I could review these pants and spread the word to the Backcountry Community on their goodness.

Oh these pants....where to start? How about with the fact that they have quickly become my favorites. I put them on for the day and they just FEEL good. Good quality, super comfortable, warm and functional....what's not to love?

The fabric is soft and moveable, not at all stiff like some ski pants tend to be. They are toasty warm without being overly bulky, and for warmer days have vents up the thigh to cool off.

I am no push-the-limits crazy cool backcountry athlete, but I do enjoy a full day in the powder and these pants keep me warm and dry, even in the coldest, wettest conditions. And to REALLY put them to the test, I took them out for the day with my kids....let me tell you what that's like: All day long, 15° (if it was even that warm), 1ft+ new powder (so good!). My kids like to spend their time rolling down the mountain like snowballs, getting stuck in trees, losing skis, and watching me climb back UP hill, limbs flailing, powder flying, all to save them. This went on for hours....but guess who stayed dry and warm, even when waist deep in new snow? ME. Thanks pants.

These are a little more relaxed fit than some pants--they lie somewhere between fitted and baggy. I would definitely say these fit true to size. I am 5'4" 112 lbs and the XS fits great. They sit a little bit lower than some of the other pants I ride in--they sit right below my hips. But if I want them up higher to ensure no snow sneaks in when I tumble down the mountain after my kiddos, the waist adjusts so I can pull them up. And with the gaiters tight around my boots they are like a force field for my lower half.

    (continued from above)

And pockets! I love pockets! I am always needing some extra space to stash my snacks/tissue/chapstick and these pants have two front pockets with zippers, a side velcro/snap cargo pocket and two back velcro pockets.

Pair these with the Mountain Hardwear Barnsie Jacket and you are good to go for the winter!

    How to Measure:
All measurements correspond to equivalent body measurements, not the dimensions of the garment. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
    Bust:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
    Sleeve:
Have a friend measure from the center of your back to your wrist.
    Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
    Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
    Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
