Nitrous Hooded Down Parka

Zip up the thigh-length Mountain Hardwear's Nitrous Hooded Down Parka and hit the snow-covered town. Whether you're on a snowy walk through Central Park or traveling from Vermont to Colorado, this jacket covers all of your bases and can be easily packed into a suitcase or carry-on.

This elegant yet pragmatic parka falls at mid-thigh, ensuring full-body warmth without the bulk. The 800-fill hydrophobic down insulation boasts a DWR treatment technology that is applied to the down filaments to repel moisture and maintain insulating properties in the face of wet weather. Outside of that warm, yet remarkably lightweight down insulation, a durable 22D ripstop fabric helps prevent rips when you brush up against bushes or your over excited dog jumps on you. Additionally the insulated two-way hood is adjustable to create a customized fit for those blustery walks home from the dog park.

  • Long down parka for taking on the cold and getting outside
  • Hydrophobic down keeps you warm even when conditions are wet
  • Durable Ripstop outer withstands wear and tear
  • Zippered pockets keep valuables where you left them
  • Slim fit with mid-thigh length provides added coverage

Wife is stoked for sideline jacket

Wife is stoked for a toasty jacket on sports sidelines
Got her Medium and she is 5'4

    Light and Warm

Great parka for the winter. Super light, so it's easy to pack away and travel with. Keeps me warm without adding that extra bulk.

      Attractive but thin

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium

Very nice looking and form-fitting but too thin for warmth and too tight for much layering underneath. My partner is 5' 6" and a fit 140 lbs.

Another odd note, the jacket came with a bonus, used chapstick in the pocket.

      Wife's 'Go To' Winter Coat

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

I surprised my wife with this jacket as she was in the market for a thigh length insulated parka, and she has been thrilled with it. It is super warm for how light weight it is and the fit is true to size. It has become her 'go to' for any in town activity.

      Love This Coat!!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium

This coat is fitted, but not tight (35" chest, bought medium), warm enough for short outings in mild winter conditions (15-40F) but not bulky, and the stitching makes it more interesting and refined than a typical down coat.

Love the Coat But It Didn't Fit!

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Small

I really liked the style of this coat and thought the performance would be decent but unfortunately, the coat did not fit and had to be returned. I'm 5'2" and about 115 lbs - can squeeze into some XS coats but they are too tight, so was banking on the S as a good fit. This coat was extremely snug in the hips and thighs - cut very narrow there - and wider on top. Seemed disproportionate in its dimensions, but going by the other reviews, other women are happy with it. The material, styling and overall look are very attractive, so was sorry it had to be returned. It has a "city-chic" look, very streamlined and fitted, which I really like.

      Update: Fragile!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: S

      Update 1/7/2018

[Feathers are falling out too fast for a jacket of this price and brand. Just today, I found an abrasion on my jacket surface that will most definitely lead to major feather loss if ripped fully. I am in the process of contacting the Warranty Department. Very sad and disappointed that this jacket did not pass my standards. All I used it for was for light city walking and commuting.]

I was skeptical about the warmth capacity at first because it's so thin and light. I was also slightly disappointed that the arms are so wide and the sleeves a bit long. I probably could have fit an XS, but I didn't want to deal with the headache of paying for returns and waiting for it to reship. Yet, I decided to keep it and have worn it with fleece jacket/vest layers underneath in temperatures as cold as 15 degrees F! The extra room ended up being useful for providing ample room to layer. I love the pockets in this jacket, especially the chest pocket where I like to keep my phone and train pass. I got the black color because it looks both professional and practical. Sometimes I like to carry a drawstring backpack into the deep inner pocket to stuff my jacket into when I travel. Very packable, surprisingly warm (enough), and sleek & stylish!

      Update: Fragile!

Did you have any luck with the warranty dept? Mine was also losing a lot of feathers in the first few weeks. It has slowed down a bit but I was also thinking of contacting the warranty dept in case I got a dud because the vast majority of reviews are great for this coat. It's also been too cold this winter for me to potentially need to return it, so I'm waiting till the end of the season and if it's still losing feathers I'll check with them. Just wondering if they were responsive to your issues.

      Obsessed

      • Size Bought: XS

I love this jacket! It's my first thigh length jacket so I wanted something sleek but could still keep me warm. It's soo light weight and the way that the stitching is done in the wavy lines vs. straight across makes it stand out when next to a ton of other puffy jackets. It's so snug and gives me a great waist. I take it out into 25 degree windy temps along with a long sleeve underneath and I'm good! Kind of crazy. The zipper goes up all the way covering your chin to help with wind. Highly highly recommend.
