Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Down Vest - Men's

The legendary lightweight packability of down without the vulnerability to water.

If lightweight and packable are qualities that you place high on your list for an insulated vest, then look no further than the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Down Vest. And, don't be worried about down's reputation for falling flat when the rains come. Mountain Hardwear solves the saturation issue with its water-resistant down, used in the Ghost Whisperer Vest. Incredibly lightweight and packable, the Ghost Whisperer will serve as your go-to layering piece for your next hike or your next ski vacation.

The Ghost Whisperer vest's face fabric is tough 30D nylon ripstop fabric. This wind-resistant fabric is soft and smooth to make layering easy. Mountain Hardwear then insulated the vest with its Q.Shield 800-fill water-resistant down. The down fibers are permanently infused with a water-repellant, so it maintains its loft and its insulating properties when wet. The Ghost Whisperer's Single-pull drawcord hem seals out drafts to keep you warm in high winds, and the jacket stuffs into its own pocket for the minimum possible pack size when not in use.

Close to Perfect

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

This vest is surprisingly warm and ridiculously light. The fit is good, the shoulder cuffs are just tight enough to trap heat without being noticible. The fabric is surprisingly tough; although it feels a bit like a cheap poncho that could rip on any snag, I've learned to trust it's durability. Only fault are the zippers, which seem to draw the fabric into them, especially when packing it into its pocket.

Perfect little pack-able vest when you're not sure you'll need it, but you're glad as hell you brought it when you do.

Warm and shinny :)

I was looking for a vest to wear during a fall/early winter or spring time when tempreature is above 32F. Ghost Whisperer is very warm and air light vest. It will definitely keep your upper body warm. It is not a wind proof, so on a windy day, wear hardshell/softshell jacket under a vest. IT is very light, can be easily compressed into its own pocket.

An outside material of a vest feels very thin and fragile, be careful not to wear it near sharp objects or an open fire, as it may easily damage a vest. Also, dont put keys in pockets, as they may puncture a whole in it. I ordered vest in Black, as vest arrived, the style wasn't me, it was jet black, stretch panels and shiny black fabric. It just didn't add up, vest looked ugly. Sizing was also off, I ordered 2 vests, Large and Medium; none fit. Large was too large, medium was very small. In summary, its a warm vest that will keep you comfotable in the cold tempreatures; the design, color and sizing were off for me . Exhanging to Arc'teryx Atom LT insulated Vest.
