Mountain Hardwear Dragon's Back Insulated Jacket - Men's

Lot lizard.

Legend has it that should the blood of a slain dragon fall upon one's armor, the blood will render it invincible—for eternity. Thankfully, in the case of the Mountain Hardwear Dragon's Back Insulated Jacket for Men, you don't have to slay any dragons to transform yourself into an indestructible lunchtime hero. All on it's own, the Dragon's Back Insulated Jacket is a fully featured, insulated jacket that provides paramount waterproof protection.

Crafted with the waterproof yet breathable Dry.Q Core shell fabric, this jacket's exterior consists of a unique, engineered fabric that is crafted layer by layer and in turn combines both face and backing materials with contrasting assets to ultimately meet the demands of your adventure. The Thermal.Q synthetic insulation traps heat and absorbs warmth, even when wet while the helmet compatible hood enables maximum protection from biting winds or wayward weather and an adjustable hem keeps your core toasty warm, so you can stay longer.

Good jacket for the price + size info

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

This is not a hardcore ski jacket, obviously. The zippers are not sealed, no vents, and it seems like it's not particularly wind or waterproof. But you wouldn't expect that at this price (I bought mine for $139). Seems like a pretty nice jacket for that price.

I also wanted to clarify the sizing. To me, it runs small. I'm 5-9, 160 pounds with somewhat athletic build. Based on the other reviews here, I went with the Medium. I wear a 40-regular suit jacket and usually buy medium-sized shirts, sweaters, jackets, etc. The medium version of this jacket is too small. Armpits are tights. Not enough in the shoulders. Might be okay if you don't layer anything underneath the jacket, but you will definitely need layers on a cold day. I'm returning it for a large.

Perfect with light puffy underneath

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

This jacket was fantastic on a recent trip to Utah. Wore a 860 puffy underneath with this on top and was absolutely stunned with how warm and dry I was. Temperature was about 28F on the days I was out. Well-made, Quality garment.

Awesome

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Went to Breckinridge for the first time. 12degree and lows -4. The jacket did its job!!! Love it thanks

disappointing

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: large

i just received it in large, black, and although its clearly a bombass piece of armor, it has no pitzips, which should definitely be a standard on such a garment (and prior to purchasing i online chatted with a person who confirmed it has pitzips). im 6'4" and the jacket is fairly long on me, going down to my hips. the hood, uncinched, can b pulled down completely over my face to my chin, a feature some may like for going over a helmet, but for me this is way too large. the collar is quite tall, coming up to my nose, but if not zipped up all the way its kinda big n floppy. i returned it because the lack of pitzips is a dealbreaker for me, but this is certainly a high performance garment

Not for skiing

  • Fit: True to size

No pit or chest zips. I don't know any men or few women who can ski downhill, cross country, or back country without ventilation. This is a great coat to wear to work if you live in Buffalo.

Great Jacket!

I've worn this jacket a few times and love the way it looks and fits. Fit-wise I'd say athletic, but with the Large size there's enough room to wear a 700-fill down mid-layer underneath (Marmot Zeus jacket in my case) without feeling stuffed. Jacket is warm on its own for temps down into the 20s. Looking forward to trying it out in the snow. Hand warmer pockets are spacious. Zippers are smooth and easy to operate with gloves.

Does this version have pit zips? and on one of the Navy color views there is no two tone color under the arms... is there a chance I would get one or the other?

No pit zips on this jacket.
