Why We Like The Cederberg Pull-On Short

Mountain Hardwear designed the Men's Cederberg Pull-On Short for rock climbing. Its cotton twill fabric is soft, durable, and has a slight stretch that works with the full gusset for freedom of movement. An elastic waistband makes the Cederberg easy to pull on, and there's an adjustable cinch buckle that ensures a secure fit and accommodates harnesses comfortably.

  • Short designed for rock climbing
  • Soft, durable cotton blended with a bit of stretch
  • Full gusset ensures freedom of movement
  • Elastic waist with adjustable cinch buckle

the belt is a little short

  • Size Bought: M

The medium fits very comfortably once it's on but it's a struggle to pull them over my legs/butt because the integrated belt is really short. Will be ditching the belt and keeping the rest. :)

Great climbing shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

They are very durable and stretchy. Could be more breathable, but I've never overheated. I have a size 28 waist and the medium size works great. I wish the buckle wasn't plastic though.

Great Shorts - fit issues

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: L

I have an old pair of gramicci shorts that have gotten so worn out that I can't really wear them in public anymore, but I still wear them around the house and refuse to get rid of them. These shorts are the best replacement for those that I have found:

Fit - I bought both Medium and Large because I guess I am in between sizes (33-34 waist). The webbing for the adjustable waist is not long enough to synch the larges down enough for a hike and the mediums were overall too constricting. I am okay with the larges as long as they are pulled pretty tight. I like the 9 in inseam, but that is a personal preference thing.

Functionality - these seem very durable and have a little stretch to them so you can reach footholds or rest comfortably. The pockets sit pretty high on the pants, which I like because when you are wearing a t-shirt, you cant even see them and it looks pretty clean, but I could see this as an issue for some.

Comfort - Second to none. Fabric is soft and stretchy. I could easily sleep in these shorts, go on a hike, or do some bouldering. for me that overcomes all of the previously mentioned shortcomings.

Look - I like the colors and with a t-shirt hanging over, you can't see any of the pockets, which makes them look pretty clean.

Not current versions

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Received older versions of the shorts. Not as wide as I’d like but they’re ok. They do not offer the inseam option. You end up with the 7in inseam.

How to Measure:
All measurements correspond to equivalent body measurements, not the dimensions of the garment. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
