Hit the trail.

Mountain Hardwear designed the Men's Canyon Pro Long-Sleeve Shirt with the goal of creating the ultimate backpacking shirt. Its stretchy fabric keeps up with you on technical treks and WickQ technology pulls sweat away from your skin and dries quickly to keep you cool and dry while you hike. Underarm ventilation keeps air flowing to prevent you from getting swamped with sweat. The fabric is also lightweight for comfort in hot conditions, yet still tough enough to withstand abuse sustained on the trail. Plus, UPF 50 sun protection shields your skin from UV rays when you're in exposed alpine environments. So whether you're hiking five miles or fifty, you can't go wrong with the Canyon Pro.

  • Light and tough shirt for backpacking and hiking
  • Stretch construction allows you to move freely
  • WickQ technology wicks sweat to keep you cool and dry
  • Slim fit for less bunching with backpack on
  • UPF 50 sun protection shields skin from sun
  • Roll-up feature keeps rolled-up sleeves from falling down
  • Perforated fabric under arms for enhanced breathability

Fatal Flaw

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

Beautiful $99 shirt. I wanted to love this shirt. First wear and one of the front snaps (their highest quality “pro” version has snaps instead of buttons) tears out of the fabric. Shirt ruined!! I won’t be ordering any more Mountain Hardware. Not OK for such an expensive product.

Quality control issues

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

It's a nice looking shirt, and I like the material, but there are some things worth noting: the pockets are smaller than the non-pro shirts, despite the description there is no "roll-up feature keeps rolled-up sleeves from falling down" unlike the non-pros, the manta gray color features underarm material that is different color than the rest of the shirt (barely visible in the pictures), there's no back vent (clearly visible from the pictures), and the closure system is snaps not buttons.

Despite all that, there are some quality control issues with the shirt. The first shirt I received was labeled a medium, but was at least a large (I have 5 other MH shirts for comparison), and the second shirt that replaced it had a snap that came off when I was removing it from the packaging. I expected better quality being that this is the "pro" model.

How to Measure:
All measurements correspond to equivalent body measurements, not the dimensions of the garment. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Sleeve:
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
