Embark on your ambitious list of summits with Merrell's Capra Bolt Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot on your feet every step of the way. If you've got big peaks and long treks in mind, the Capra Bolt's blend of ankle stability and breathability will keep you comfortable and supported over the miles. Merrell embraced a wider toe box and narrower heel for the Capra Bolt this year, trusting airy mesh and welded seaming along the uppers to conform to the bumps along your foot right away, rather than requiring years of painful "break-in" time.
Inside the shoe, a cushy Merrell M Select FIT.ECO footbed delivers the cush, while molded nylon stands supporting your arch over multi-day treks. Merrell adds an air cushion to the sticky Select Grip heel to makes sure you're not weighed down by solid rubber, along with a TrailProtect pad to guard against sharp, loose rock. Barrel through stream crossings, mud pits, and muggy afternoon showers without your toes pruning; Merrell's Select Dry treatment and the bellows tongue construction will both loyally block water and debris from getting into your shoe, making sure your trail companions don't include an unbidden blister or two.

- Q & A
Light waterproof hiker
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I bought these as my back up pair of shoes for a camping trip to Alaska in May. I needed a waterproof, light, comfortable, mid-cut hiker. Wow, I am impressed with the flexible yet grippy sole. The laces don't come untied without knotting them. They are true to size-71/2 and medium width. They feel more like a running shoe for comfort and have removable insole with adequate support for my use. The color is great and the light colored sole isn't a standout white color which is good. I got them under $100. Great buy.
