MaxxisMinion DHF Wide Trail 3C/Double Down/TR Tire - 27.5in

Some all-mountain shredders don't need it all to feel good. But that's not us. If it's not you, either, then Dr. Maxxis is prescribing 27.5in of the Minion DHF Wide Trail 3C/Double Down/TR Tire. While its cup runneth over with all manner of Maxxis tech, this little enduro pill's active ingredient is its Double Down armor, which involves two layers of 120 TPI casing and a butyl insert for gravity-grade protection at an all-mountain weight. Take two and meet us at the trailhead in the morning.

Despite not measuring in the 2.8in range, the Minion WT still accommodates the current trend of wider rims with an equally expanded tread pattern. The tweaked design lets the tire sit fat without the risk of the shoulder knobs migrating to areas of trail contact that they're not meant for — a distinct possibility with narrow tires on wide rims. This preserves the rolling speed and cornering confidence that keep us coming back to the dual-compound Minion party, and it also makes the DHF model's reliability on soggy trails that much more appealing.

Sitting fat also equates to more air volume, which in turn makes for a plusher, less flat-prone, and higher traction ride — all of which properties are further boosted by running the Minion tubeless. This particular Minion also features Maxxis' 3C Maxx Grip compound blend, which involves a harder base layer and progressively softer outer layers to maintain durability and preserve grip and trail feel. Like the Double Down puncture-resistance, 3C Maxx Grip is typically seen on Maxxis' DH line, so it's welcome medicine for any all-mountain nutter who regularly ends up on the far side of the ragged edge.

This tire is almost a pound heavier than the non-DD casing. It's so sturdy that I'm running pressures down around 20 PSI. I absolutely love the tire but I wouldn't get the DD casing unless you are racing an event or you are regularly ripping the non-DD casing. With that being said, the traction is unreal. There's a reason that this tire is the GOAT. My one disappointment is that it doesn't really measure a full 2.5" wide when inflated.

Nothing Better

    My go-to tire for any serious riding. Dependable classic DHF pattern and grip with extra flat protection. My tire of choice for hardpack to light mud. They also seal easily.

    Bought these tires for my 25mm wide rim, would it be safe to mount these since it says it’s 35mm wide rim? Please advice

    Hey Mayra, you definitely will be able to mount them and safely ride them, but the tire profile may just not be ideal for it, giving it a bit rounded over balloon profile.     I run the Minion DHF WT for front and rear. I can be a bit of a hack and smash my rear wheel into things so I opted for the DD casing in the rear. I could not be happier! I have been on the DD casing for almost two years and have never pinch flatted.

      It's narrow by a huge margin 2.5 it was more like a 2.0 straight up... Slid out from under me 2 out of 2 rides even with different pressures and the super soft compound I returned it and went for WTB Vigilante front and rear much better for the price ,weight,grip..... Most of all I'm getter the rubber I paid for ..... And to boot the tire was on a Easton ARK30 wheel I built....

      This is a great tire for the down hill. They are heavy to pedal around, but worth it for the down. The extra rubber allows you to run lower pressures in the tires without destroying your rims. The extra casing also gives the tire a damper feel which is nice for brake bumps and other chatter causing features.

      Though these babies aren't light weight and don't like to go up hill very much, they make up for it on the down. All of a sudden you jsut can't get the front to let go. Just imagine the joy you'll experience while your tire is saying "I can't quit you" to the dirt. Its a wonderful experience. Even better, you don't have to worry about ripping this tire off your rim, its on there and isn't going anywhere.

      Meaty goodness

        Double Down DHF is awesome. Hooks up great. Also, I can run these at 30 psi no problem. Most tires i have to run 34-36 'cause i hate feeling it squirm and roll over.

        Ive been riding with a DH casing up front for a while now and finally Maxxis offered something in between the exo and the dh. This thing is great, a little on the heavier side than the exo but you get the extra insurance that goes with it. Same great DHF.
