Many mountain bike shoes are great for race day, but often suffer from poor flexibility and uninspiring grip when you need to dismount over technical sections of trail. Designed to emulate the look and feel of athletic sneakers, the Mavic Men's XA Pro Mountain Bike Shoe ensures steadfast grip and flexibility when difficult terrain requires you to scope out your line before plunging in.
The XA Pro Mountain Bike Shoe is an entirely different experience for riders coming from a more traditional pair of mountain bike shoes. We'd chalk this up to Mavic's Energy Grip Trail + sole, which manages to remain flexible and insanely grippy, but still retains all the power you need on all-day epics with thousands of feet of climbing and descending. Mavic achieves this balance of all-out grip and efficiency with its Contagrip rubber tread combined with a carbon composite internal plate. This means the shoe remains flexible and grippy along the perimeter lugs, but still places power down under the ball of your foot while pedaling.
Besides being balancing grip with pedaling efficiency, the XA Pro Mountain Bike Shoe offers the superb fit you'd find with far more expensive shoes. Mavic's Ergo Dial QR tightens the uppers with micro-adjustable precision to eliminate excess slop and pressure points from fatiguing your riding experience. This micro-adjustable closure system sits alongside a more traditional ankle strap for additional support and security while riding hard.

Great Fit and Solid Pedaling
These shoes fit just like a Salomon running shoe. They fit true to size and are extremely comfortable. So far no durability issues, I'm about 200 miles in. The only complaint I can come up with is that the top velcro strap is really stiff, and you can crank it down too tight pretty easily. It took me a few rides to figure out where it needed to be to avoid cutting into my ankle or being uncomfortable. Pedaling feels like a pretty normal bike shoe, but the fit feels like a regular shoe.
Exactly what I was looking for
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This is a great all mountain shoe. If the Salomon XA Pro shoe fits you, these will too. They have a great pedal platform while being easy to walk in. I have not been not on slick rock with them but otherwise the grip has been great. The dial to lace it up is a bit tight on the top part of my foot but it if nothing too major. Overall, this is a great shoe and I recommend it to anyone looking for a shoe in this category.
Great walkers with solid pedal platform
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size

I’ve been on these shoes for several months and at least 150 wintery miles. They fit and walk like running shoes, but unlike other similar clipless shoes of this type I’ve worn the pedal platform is great. In combination with with xtr race pedals I don’t get a hot spot or notice excessive flex. No it’s not a full carbon race shoe, but it’s great for it’s intended application. Fit is true to size.
Pros: Fit, platform, awesome dial that’s easier to use than boa.
Cons: the Velcro strap sits a little high and if tightened too much puts an uncomfortable amount of pressure on the tendons on the top of my
