Nice Pant

  • Fit: True to size

Marmot is one of the few that have a short length pant, and it's perfect for me being a short-legged 6-footer. Fit and stretch is very functional. The only drawback: not a very breathable fabric.

Trouble with the fit see

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 32 R inseam

Unless you wear your pants just below the nipples in an homage to Jimmy Stewart, you will most likely find these pants way, way too long and way, way too high-waisted! Got a good deal--leaving for field work--so really wanted these to work.

Tree Trunks for Legs

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 34"

I knew the pants ran large from other reviewers, but as I run between two waist sizes, I took a chance on a 34". They fit perfectly around my waist, but the legs had a ridiculous cut. Unless your calves and thighs have the same dimensions, you'll be disappointed. I sent mine back.

Love the flex, feel and color but LONG!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 32 Reg

Love the flex, feel and color but definitely run LONG. Im a 32x32 in ALL pants but these are easily a 34 length if not a 36. Going to try the shorts, if I can find them in stock somewhere, and see how they fit.

Great Pant but...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 30

Functionally these pants are pretty solid softshell. Breathable, warm but not too warm, dry super quick. Took on a 12 day climbing trip and worn every day, put up with summer snow and ice, bushwacking, light misting, scraping over granite and gneiss, only towards the very end did it seem like I had mucked them up enough to start to defeat the DWR, so pretty durable fabric I'd say.

EXCEPT, the serging in the crotch split on the second day of use ever (see pic), and I wasn't doing particularly stressful climbing yet. Certainly not an existential concern for the pants overall, at least in the nice weather we had but kind of annoying. Maybe I just got a bad pair but a gusseted crotch would make these pants bomber all the same. I read they run a bit large so I got a 30 waist and they fit great. Got a tiny bit loose after 12 days of wear but probably also shed a bit of weight.

Great Pant but...

All around pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: l

I was looking for a shell pant that I could use for cross country tours and downhill. These pants do the job. I used the pants for downhill today. It was about 32 degrees and windy. I used a mid weight base under the pants, My legs were warm and I felt no wind penetration. UNZIP the Ankle zipper and pant will streach over a downhill ski boot. I did not expect that. They passed the downhill test. The previous week, I used the pants for a tour. I used light weight base, it was 32 degrees, light wind, and I experienced ZERO condensation below the belt. However, my Gortex jacket shell felt like a fish bowl after 1 hour of skiing. Exactly why I was looking for this type of shell fabric. It breaths. Plenty of pockets, I like the belt loops. Great pants, let's see how the hold up over the long haul.
UPdate, one day later: Today, I hopped on my bike for a quick trip to grocery store, I wore the Spree pants, zipped up the ANKLE zipper. the lower leg is trim enough that you have no worry about getting fabric entangled in chain. Pant has plenty of zipper pockets for keys, wallet, ect. They are not designed for distance cycle tours, but work good for a quick trip to the market.

I no longer want to wear anything else

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 30 short

I bought a pair of these over a year ago, I've used them hiking, rock climbing, ice climbing, skiing, and just to wear to dinner around town. Awesome, comfortable, light, and quick drying. Also a bit stretchy where it counts. I loved them so much I've just ordered another pair so I can wear them all the time. Beware the high heat setting when drying, a friend of mine melted a section of his pair. Still usable but look wrinkly and took the stretch out of that section.

Good Fabric, Poor Stitching

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 30 short

After about of year of not too hard use, the side pocket has come unstitched and is unusable. I really like the fabric though, so if the stitching quality had been better I would have given these 5 stars. I'd probably still buy another pair if the price was right though. These pants can usually be had for cheap and are very versatile and moderately warm. I'm about 5'10" and had to order the short version; regular length was way too long, so be careful on sizing. I normally wear 30X32.

Guys, they are great, strict and for the sport in the same time!

Utility pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 34 Long

Thes are very nice pants. I originally bought the regular length. After checking with the wife, they were deemed too short. So I bought the long size. These initially seemed about right, but due to the stretchiness of the fabric, the pants feel a little longer and bigger after several wearings. Then you wash them, and they tighten back up.

Have not yet taken them up in mountains, but they seem warm and block the wind. Normal in this regard.

But the fit is great: trim, athletic, and stylish for normal body types. Not sure why there are complaints on fit, below.

I like my active pants a little short....I hate things that bunch up around my ankles. So I am going to keep the longs, but now have bought a different color in the regular length. Due to the relatively low price, this is viable. I will keep the longs for winter hiking or cold temps. Keep the regulars for around town and summer use.

I own Patagonia, Marmot and Arcteryx, and in my opinion Marmot is a great, durable, stylish choice for less money than the other two. I have never had quality or fit issues with Marmot.

A Great Pant

Absolutely love these pants. They are comfortable and fitted. Stretch nicely and allow great mobility. Work well in both winter and summer as a shell or a mid layer, and are breathable to boot. Can’t recommend them enough. I’ve bought 2 pairs now and am getting my wife a pair too. Amazing pants!

    Great all around pant

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 36L

I bought these to wear for a 2 week trip to Australia. I ordered a size up because most pants are cut too slim in the legs. I got these at a good price which is why I didn't return them for the 34L because they do run slightly big.

    Favorite all around pants!

I wore these hiking, and downhill snowboarding in the same week during spring break. They are light weight, very wind proof, and very comfortable. Highly recommended.

      Great hiking pants

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 30xshort

The pants are an extremely nice/stretchy/breathable fabric. The zipper at the bottom of the leg makes it easy to throw on bulky boots/ski boots. They were a bit thinner that i thought (i bought them to ski in), so i probably wouldn't use them for a very cold day. Although you probably fit one pair of sweatpants underneath. I ended up returning them because they were thinner than i wanted and i couldn't afford to have a thick and thin pair of pants, BUT they are an extremely well made pair of pants, and they look really nice too. I got the 30 waist with short inseam and they fit really well, (i'm about a 27 inseam by the way) they were the perfect length. If i hiked more or went snowboarding on warmer days often, i'd definitely use these.

Why do a customer pay for mistake of bc

reasons of one star are Backcountry shipping wrong item and a extremely bad

        and irresponsible service of Backcountry.

I ordered a size32 pants from Backcountry, however Backcountry shipped an incorrect size 30 pants to me,not right size 32
I have explain the difficulty of shipping the wrong item back to Backcountry in e-mails and chats for eight times.
reasons of no shipping the item back.
1 high fee of shipping back international
2 risk of loss or damage of in transit international that Backcountry do not cover
3 time of shipping back is over two weeks.

however,Backcountry do not consider the difficulty of shipping international and refuse to provide any service without shipping the item back.
Backcountry have made a mistake to harm a customer's benefits ,then force a customer to accept more losses.
in same case Amazon solved the problem with two e-mail.Backcountry did not with eleven e-mails and chats.
service of Backcountry is much worse than Amazon.
Shopping in Backcountry is high-risk and extremely awful in according to service of Backcountry.
Backcountry make a mistake,It is a customer that suffer.
Why do a customer pay for a mistake of Backcountry?

You can't get them for free bud, send them back and get the right size. They may give you a 20% discount or something, their customer service is impeccable.

Maybe you should rate the product and not Backcountry, it's not Marmots fault that Backcountry sent the wrong product!

        Poor fit

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Size Bought: 32 waist

Appear very well made, but fit is very poor. These pants are the opposite of an "athletic fit". The waist on these pants is listed as a 32", but these are extremely loose at the waist and bunch up even with a bel - even with a heavy shirt tucked in.. My waist is 32" with a tape measure. And, they fit tight, like a 30" pair, around the thighs - otherwise I'd swap them for a 30" waist.

Does any one make a pair of pants that resembles the old "athletic fit" style?

        All 4 seasons

These M3's Scree's have been my year round go to pant for about 6 years now. I think I have now bought 5 pair of them. I am 6 foot 8 with shoes on and 250 pounds all dressed. The 36 long fit me with no necessary tailoring. I honestly believe Marmot used my likeness to create the 36 longs. If you have a 36 inseam and a 36 inch waist then 36 longs will fit you. I wear them year round and probably don't even ever need a base layer if you live in an area that doesn't go below 0. (celsius)

          Big. Way big.

          • Fit: Runs large
          • Size Bought: Large

I wish these pants were listed by the size Marmot has inside the pant - "36 XL". Had I known the 36 was an extra large I would have sized down. The pitfalls of shopping online. Really nice pant, great color for backcountry hiking/hunting/etc.
