Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's
MarmotPreCip Jacket - Women's

Don't get drenched or let off a stench.

Protect yourself from precipitation while releasing your perspiration in the breathable, waterproof Marmot Women's PreCip Jacket. The PreCip is 43% more breathable than last year and offers solid 10K-rated waterproof protection. Throw on this comfortable shell when heading out on the trail in wet weather, and its microporous NanoPro membrane with microscopic, densely-packed pores and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish will go to work keeping rain drops out while letting perspiration through. The DriClime mesh chin guard prevents moisture buildup from your warm, moist breath and dripping sweat—moving it quickly away from your skin and drying quickly. Fully taped seams ensure rain doesn't sneak through the cracks, and you can batten down against the elements by pulling in the hood, hem, and cuffs. When you start getting steamy huffing up a hill, unzip the underarm vents to let cool air in and pent-up heat escape.

  • A minimalist rain shell great for hiking and backpacking
  • Waterproof and breathable NanoPro shell with fully taped seams
  • Underarm vents can be opened up to let heat escape
  • DriClime moisture-managing mesh chin guard
  • Adjustable hood rolls into collar when the weather clears
  • Jacket stows into hand pocket when not in use
  • Regular fit with Angel-Wing construction for free movement

Works well

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this for my wife before heading to the PNW. It did a great job of keeping her dry but it doesn't breath all that well. Overall it was a good purchase for the price.

Beautiful rain jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I love the color! It kept me warm too! I also have one in a light teal. I would take one in every color if I could.

Perfect for Travel

I love this rain jacket. It packs well and keeps me dry! Windproof too of course which is also helpful.

    Great Rain jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Definitely waterproof. I wore this jacket for a week and was on a glacier in Iceland while it was pouring and standing next to several waterfalls or below one and this jacket kept me dry. The one bummer is that I thought I bought red, but it's really a pink color. The color I selected was Persian Red XL. I bought XL so I could layer underneath. I am normally a large. I also wish there was a pocket in the front in the chest area for gloves, but I should have looked more closely. Also packs super small so it's nice when traveling.

    Great Rain Jacket

I had been eyeing this model of jacket for a year or two and finally decided to bite the bullet. It is true to size and does what it does well: keeps me dry! I've mostly used it in winter as an outer shell when it's not cold enough for my parka, but when I still demand to be kept dry during snow or rain. I love it and highly recommend to those unsure about whether or not it holds up!

    Gift for sister

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Love my new jacket! It's super light weight, and breathable. I can't wait to wear it on hikes around the pacific ocean, down here in San Diego!

    It Works

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket as I was looking for something affordable but reliable. It's got some nice features like the high neck and the armpit zips. It's not the most breathable. I've found it to be a bit uncomfortable when bike commuting during warm wet days. It's done OK on rainy hikes, but there's certainly room for improvement although for the price point, it's a standout. It's much lighter and more comfortable than my earlier North Face rain jacket (which I purchased around the same price).

    Grab and Go Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

We keep our precips in the jeep for the surprise rain storm or random adventure we weren't expecting rain clouds. It holds up and performs very well for this. Not bombproof like gore tex, but a solid solution if you're wiling to recoat with DWR occasionally. We've been using these jackets for 4 years now, no trouble, always dry.

    Gift for my Mom

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I got this jacket for my Mom and she loves it. It is very light weight and packs down small but still has a durable feel and keep the water and wind out. The breathability is also great, especially when hiking in warm humid environments like south GA.

    Not for backpacking, but cute!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cute jacket, and great for the price! Perfect for day to day use

However if you are doing any type of long distance backpacking/hiking where you may need a good rain jacket, I would not suggest. On my thru hike I was the first of my group to always have their rain jacket soaked through. I ended up ditching it, I was originally sold by the price. The saying "waterproof only goes so far" is true, but this would could have gone a liiitttttle bit further....

    Awesome rain coat

I am 5’ 6” female, 120 pounds, lanky with long arms. The small fits perfect. This rain coat works great in torrential weather!

      Great jacket

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is the perfect jacket to take with you on any adventure. I normally wear a medium but went up to the large so I could have room to layer underneath it. I took this all over Italy with me and it was perfect.

      Odd Fit

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Small

I ended up returning this jacket because the fit was a little odd on me. The jacket hit at a weird spot on my hip and kind of draped like a tent making for an unflattering fit on me. I'm pretty short though with an even shorter torso, so it could be great for someone a bit taller. Loved the color options and material. Super lightweight and would be great for backpacking and camping.

      My First Rain Jacket!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

I needed a rain jacket since I was rafting the Grand Canyon during monsoon season, and after reading what seemed like a million reviews, I decided on this one. I am busty, so I ordered a large and the fit is great. It's roomy enough for layers in colder months but doesn't swallow me up without layers. I ordered the Celtic color and it is such a pretty green. I ended up needing it our second afternoon on the trip and it kept me dry and warm! Looking forward to using it on mountain hikes in the future!

      Light weight and sleek

      • Fit: True to size

      Exactly what I wanted!

      Killer Rain Jacket

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

Feedback from relative: "This is my third Precip order - I love this jacket. It's very affordable and gets the job done. The small size still allows some room for me to layer a puffy jacket underneath, and that combination is warm enough to get me through most alpine hikes. I've primarily used the jacket for peak bagging in the Wasatch and the Tetons and it has yet to fail me. I will absolutely replace this Precip with another once it wears out."

First Rain Jacket and Love It

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this jacket for my wife... she really like's it and thinks the color is beautiful. Fit is good... ordered a medium and it fits just right. It does make a lot of noise but works great in the rain. Overall... love it.

      not waterproof

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: medium

I loved this jacket from the beginning-pockets in great location, pit zips, good length/fit, packable, good mobility of shoulders (TNF jackets are too tight in shoulders for me). After owning around 7 months and using very infrequently, it is no longer waterproof. water saturates it like a windbreaker and completely soaks whatever you're wearing underneath. The jacket remains cold, wet and clammy until drying out, which seems to take longer than it should. Not sure what is wrong with the material, I haven't washed it or anything. Suppose I'll have to figure out a product to treat it with. I distinctly recall water beading off when I wore it the first time. Luckily, I don't use on trail, just to and from buildings or around campus MAYBE a couple times a month. Can't imagine wearing this on the trail in a chilly rain, I would surely freeze! Not happy with the quality for the brand/price.. losing trust in the Marmot brand. My friend's 30$ Costco rain coat tops this one.

      SIDE NOTES:
the monogramed MARMOT is literally right next to the velcro. so when you wear the coat unzipped the velcro folds over the monograming ripping it out and giving you an ugly frayed mess.. not really a big deal for me, but COME ON..... who designed this??
Also- material is VERY noisy when you move as other reviews mentioned.

It's important to frequently wash water resistant items. It's actually the dirt and oil on the material that breaks down its ability to repell water.

      not the best.

      • Fit: True to size

I've had this jacket for about 2.5 years and it's definitely starting to wear heavily. The inside lining is starting to peel and come off in areas where there is the most movement. I've worn it for working outdoors, many backpacking trips (mostly in the tropics), and just around town. It's lightweight and fairly breathable, with enough room for me to wear a sweater or hoodie underneath but it isn't the best for rougher use. It's never been 100% waterproof for hours at a time, which is necessary when backpacking in rainy/snowy weather, but it does the job if you're in and out of the rain. Better to invest in a more waterproof jacket from the get go.
