Don't get drenched or let off a stench.

Protect yourself from precipitation while releasing your perspiration in the breathable, waterproof Marmot Women's PreCip Jacket. The PreCip is 43% more breathable than last year and offers solid 10K-rated waterproof protection. Throw on this comfortable shell when heading out on the trail in wet weather, and its microporous NanoPro membrane with microscopic, densely-packed pores and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish will go to work keeping rain drops out while letting perspiration through. The DriClime mesh chin guard prevents moisture buildup from your warm, moist breath and dripping sweat—moving it quickly away from your skin and drying quickly. Fully taped seams ensure rain doesn't sneak through the cracks, and you can batten down against the elements by pulling in the hood, hem, and cuffs. When you start getting steamy huffing up a hill, unzip the underarm vents to let cool air in and pent-up heat escape.

  • A minimalist rain shell great for hiking and backpacking
  • Waterproof and breathable NanoPro shell with fully taped seams
  • Underarm vents can be opened up to let heat escape
  • DriClime moisture-managing mesh chin guard
  • Adjustable hood rolls into collar when the weather clears
  • Jacket stows into hand pocket when not in use
  • Regular fit with Angel-Wing construction for free movement

Great quality but tight in the chest

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I really loved the lightweight fabric and it is incredibly water resistant! Also, I love that it has good sized mesh pockets. I'm planning to use it on a SOBO pct hike. If I had any complaints it would be that the chest and shoulder area is too tight and restricting. I have pretty broad shoulders and I want to have good movement and comfort in that area. I'm thinking about buying a men's jacket to fix this.

awesome

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: S

Second time buying this raincoat, the first wore out after 10+ years. Great fit and very lightweight. Has venting in the right places and keep me dry.

Good for light rain, not heavy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I bought this for a trip to Iceland, and I did use it several times while there. In light/medium rains it worked fine and kept me dry. There was one day that we were in a pretty heavy rain for about 10 minutes and the inside of the arms of this jacket were very "dewy" which got my hands and base layer a bit wet.
Normally I would have bought a large so that it wasn't form-fitting, but comfortable. I went up a size because I wanted to be able to put this over a puffy jacket (which I did). I think if I had ordered a large to use for "normal" use (not in cold Iceland weather with potential rain) that it would be true to size.

Nice design, returned due to tight arms

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: medium

I like the design and the fit was flattering and trim, but it was too tight in the elbows when I bent my arms. Would benefit from articulated elbows. The overall fit is quite trim, fine if I was wearing only a T-shirt but a little tight if I wore a sweater fleece. I got a medium, my usual size. I considered exchanging it for a large but instead just returned it.

Thank you again for your feedback, Mary!

Lightweight and durable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I put this jacket through a summer of Upper Peninsula rain and a full week of backpacking in almost nonstop rain and wind in the Faroe Islands. I stayed dry and wind protected for 6 of those days, but it couldn’t quite hold up to the hours of downpour we had one day. The sleeves started to leak at the cuff and the water just slowly worked it’s way up my arms. The torso and hood stayed dry. It’s very lightweight so you don’t get much warmth out of it, but it’s great to layer with. The arm vents were great for cooling down. All the seams are holding up and I don’t have any tears from running around in rocky terrain. For the price this is a fantastic jacket and I highly recommend it.

*I ordered the XL to be large so I could layer with a heavy fleece and it’s exactly what I needed. I think the large would have been much more form fitting for my size if that’s what you’re looking for

Love it!

Hey Jon!

The Precip now uses the Marmot NanoPro membrame for better comfort and protection.

Would you recommend this jacket for lightweight hiking

I got this for my girlfriend last summer, she doesn't hike in Utah without it. It fits in her small daypack and she put it on for rain, or to add a little warmth when the wind picks up.

I just used this jacket to run R2R2R in the Grand Canyon. It was snowing when we started. The snow turned to rain for most of the day. It kept me dry, yet was still very breathable. Perfect jacket. I highly recommend it.

I'm 5'5", 145. Would a medium fit me nicely, yet still have room to layer my Nano Puff underneath? I was swimming in the Torrentshell medium.

Yep, I think a medium would be just about perfect!

Did anybody else get the gemstone color and think it looked way more purple in real life than on the site? The gemstone is PURPLE. It looked much more blueish with a bit of purple on the site.

Yes, gemstone is definitely a "purple" rather than blue.

Would this jacket be good for running? Does the hood adjust to fit more snugly? (With drawstrings or Velcro?)

What is the center back length of a medium?

how warm is this? im looking for a good windbreaking, water resistant jacket for september in peru where the temperatures can vary high 60s in the day to high 30s/low40s in the evening

Hi Cher,

There is no added insulation in this jacket to help keep warm- but it is a great rain layer! I would recommend you stick with the Summerset softshell jacket you are looking at, and bring extra layers for when it cools down

Kayla is right about this jacket having no added insulation, but you can easily wear a long sleeve or light fleece/base layer underneath to keep warm below 55 degrees.
