Stop and go.

Believe it or not, there was a time before softshells existed. Back then, dinosaurs roamed the earth, dressed in sweaty hardshells, while small furry mammals tried to convince themselves that they didn't actually want to be dry, anyway. In the intervening years, life, as it tends to do, figured things out, and gear like Marmot's Gravity Women's Softshell Jacket came to be, meaning that self-aware creatures like yourself no longer have to choose between getting wet, getting sweaty, or moving freely.

Marmot says the secret is its M1 Softshell material. At once stretchy, breathable, water resistant, and durable, M1is the toughest softshell in Marmot's collection and is best suited for stop-and-go activities where staying warm and dry is more important than keeping cool. Like all of Marmot's outerwear, the Gravity is designed with Angel-Wing Movement, which provides full mobility in the arms, and it's finished with details like a drawcord hem, hook-and-loop cuffs, and a solid assortment of pockets to keep your organized when you're on the go.

Nice Jacket

  • Size Bought: s

Runs large and is bulky across upper chest. Unfortunately had to return jacket.

Warm and blocks the wind!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Gift recipient is very excited about this jacket. Here's what she had to say:
I was looking for a light weight jacket that would also keep me warm. This is perfect! I ordered a size up so I could wear it over heavy sweaters. It keeps me warm without the bulk. The deep purple is beautiful in person!

Third time Gravity softshell buyer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XS

This is the best jacket I've ever owned. I'm 5'2" and it actually hits at my hips. The chest is a bit snug, but I actually like that (as it helps keep everything in!). It's warm without the bulk, and the arm zipper is perfect for keys, lip balm, or a transportation card. I took my last one sailing and didn't wash it after, so the zippers began to corrode. Hence, my third Gravity softshell! Only thing is that I would love to have more colors that aren't so girly all the time.

Prefect lightweight jacket

I bought this jacket for cross country skiing. Yes, it will work for that on a cold day, but I had to shed it in the first mile in 40 degree weather. It is warm, yet no bulk. I love it and look forward to next winter and hopefully colder weather.

Solid Softshell, why so short Marmot?!

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S

Warm and Softshelly, everything you want in a softshell. Cozy fleece-lined pockets, adjustable cuffs, inner zip pocket. But the length leaves something to be desired.
I measured a center back length of 34" (from under collar to hem), and a side under arm to hem of 15 1/2" on a size Small.

Hi there, Thanks for posting measurements! I always want measurements. I think you meant to type "24" not "34" for the center back length. 24 (not 36) makes sense with your observation the jacket is rather short, and also your report that the side seam is 15.5. Thanks again.

The color of this jacket looks slightly different from the one on the Marmot website. Are they the same? I've attached a photo.

Yes, they are the same color. It's actually more accurate on the Marmot site, it's a bit darker in person than BC pictures show. It's a beautiful deep rich purple.
