Marmot Downtown Component Jacket - Women's

It's always warm and dry downtown.

Chocolate pretzels are amazing because you get salty and sweet, creamy and crunchy, all jammed up together in a delicious package. There's no implication that the designers at Marmot are chocolate pretzel fiends, particularly, but they applied the same together-is-better logic to the Downtown Component Women's Jacket, so you can have solid waterproofing and cozy insulation in one city-slick package.

If your early fall meeting is scheduled during a rainstorm, leave the warm liner jacket and its Thermal R Eco synthetic insulation at home and arrive at the office without looking like a river rat. The outer shell, made of polyester, features Marmot's 2L MemBrain laminate and fully taped seams to give you quality protection from sudden storms, along with a zip-off hood to keep your 'do done right.

When the November sun pops out but the air stays chilly, swap the trench for the inner liner jacket. It's packed with eco-friendly Thermal R Eco insulation, so you'll stay warm without suffocating, and has a stylish silhouette that's just as fashionable as the overcoat. Adjustable cuffs close magnetically to keep drafts from creeping up your sleeves, and the zippered hand pockets help your fingers stay warm so you can munch on your private pretzel stash while you're strolling past snowdrifts and along frosty sidewalks.

LOVE this coat!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I have been looking for a 3 in 1 covering my thigh. This is perfect in that the shell is waterproof and has shape defining my waistline. I do not look like a big puff! I read several online reviews complaining about the the high collar but when the wind was whipping in low temps, I was so grateful for that high collar that zipped up
and protected my face! Couldn't be more pleased with this purchase!

Super high collar., Well designed coat.

A beautiful well made & well thought out coat. Nice waist shaping. hidden zippers, warm pockets. Good details. Really functional.

I wear a medium in other Marmot coats, of which I have 4 others.

It fits snug. Best with a light shirt and sweater. I wore in 40 degree, 36 windchill & rain. Perfectly warm & dry.

Traveled for the holidays and only had ot take 1 piece of outerwear. Wore rain shell in 55 degree rain - was great. Wore the liner jacket alone when sunny but in the 40's.

But the weird part is the collar. It was so tall, it went up over my eyes and ears! Yes, couldn't see or breathe. Just the top edge of my eyeglasses was showing the top of my head. Hilarious.

Well, at least no rain is getting in.

Subtracted a point because I can't zip up collar. If it were 1 - 2 inches shorter, it would still be functional, but not cover face. Note: you can't wear the hood unless the collar is up.

Super high collar., Well designed coat.

I wanted to love it, but...

...but there is an issue. The large collar interferes with the hood's functionality. Since this is a raincoat, the hood is important to me. But it really only goes up right when you have the enormous collar zipped up all the way to cover your face. That's not necessarily how I want to wear the coat all the time.

There are many beautiful things about this coat I should mention. I LOVE the navy color. I love the styling - it has a waist! I love the magnetic snaps. I am astonished at the inner layer actually looks good on its own. And the material is superb for waterproofness. The pockets are comfortable and there's a zippered one inside.

Gosh I wanted to love this coat! Anyway, if the hood isn't such an issue for you it does have many beautiful features.

By the way, in my opinion all Marmot upper body garments run small - their size chart states their XL is 10-12, when it's normally 14-16. I normally wear Mediums, but had to buy Larges in these coats to fit my shoulders.

nice coat but runs large

I wear large in other Marmot coats (allows for extra room for layers), both rain coats and winter coats. The Downtown Component has a zip out insulating layer which is really nice. However, when trying on the outer rain coat layer by itself, it is huge! I am also trying out the Marmot High Street rain jacket, so I was able to compare it with the Downtown Component. Even though the High Street is also in size Large, it fits much better, & I still have room when I tried on the High Street insulating layer with it. Too bad I can't keep just that layer, that is exactly what I want. Unfortunately, the coat is back up to regular price so don't really want to pay that much to try a Medium.

You can actually exchange for size under the sale price....
