Great for the Kingpin, but not for pins
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Easy to mount, and mount well on a wide selection of boots, including the Backland. After they are mounted, they are solid and work well with the Kingpin.
Here is where things get not so awesome - and kind of unnecessary.
After removing the stock heel adapter from my Backland, I noticed that the profile of the Kingpin heel adapter (where the pins would engage) is WAY THICKER than my stock one.
By like double. The stock adapter was probably 5mm in width, where this is easily 10mm or more. Why is it so thick? No idea. The function of this adapter is to increase the profile of the heel, not change the interface of my pin bindings and the boot. Because of the increase in width - the pins on my tech bindings do not go nearly as far into the heel as they did with the stock one, and seem to release way easier.
If you only plan on using your boot with the kingpin, these will do just fine, but if you wanted to switch back and forth between different skis and bindings, you may run into this problem. I'm not sure if this is the same for other boot models, but i can only assume it would as most heel pin interfaces are not as wide as the kingpin adapter's.
See PHOTO for width issue I refer to.
