Mammut Schneefeld Fleece Jacket - Women's

Low-profile Polaretec protection from the elements.

A good midlayer is key on long expeditions, ski tours, and alpine climbs, so make sure the Mammut Schneefeld Women's Jacket is safely tucked away in your pack before you leave the house. It's a technical midweight jacket with a high warmth-to-weight ratio, courtesy of Polartec Thermal Pro hardface fleece, and plenty of alpine-friendly features like thumbholes to keep your sleeves in place, flatlock seams for under-pack comfort, and built-in UPF 50 sun protection. The hood is easy to adjust with one hand, and the zipper garage keeps your chin from being rubbed raw when you need shelter from the cold, giving you one less thing to worry about when you're pushing for the summit.

great fleece

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: small

I love all the details of this fleece -- thumb holes (that stay closed when your thumb isn't through them), high neck when zipped that is optimal for chin-warming when needed, hood that keeps you toasty on the tops of windy peaks. The size small is a bit on the larger side for me, but I appreciate the extra room for layering possibilities. Blue with contrasting pink and orange is great! Added bonus: finally a fleece that dog hair doesn't stick to! This is my new go-to backcountry mid-layer.

Super warm, thin, stretchy midlayer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: xs

I love love love this mid layer.

1) it's extremely warm and wind resistant while being very thin and creating no bulk

2) it has a high neck and a great snug hood, for extra protection when it's cold or windy

3) it's slim fitting, but has a lot of stretch and mobility - you never feel like it's curbing movement

4)i like the medium length - not too long, not too short

4) looks great on and the details on zipper and contrast liners are superb

In the photo i am enjoying the summit of El Diente at 14,160 feet. Telluride, CO

Gorgeous! This jacket is almost as good looking on, as this majestic view.

Thanks so much for your helpful review.

Great Jacket - REALLY Poor Quality

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I loved this jacket after first purchasing it. It fit great and was very warm for longer hikes.

THEN, after wearing it LESS than 5 times over 6 weeks, the seams started to fall apart. All the hood fasteners fell off, so the hood won't stay on anymore. The jacket is literally falling apart.

Awesome jacket! Even more if you're tall

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have a bunch of quality jackets from mammut, norrna, patagonia, 66 north and more. This one is the best powerstrech one I've come across.

The 'hardface' IS more sturdy and firmer than normal powerstretch, it can take a lot more beating from for example rock climbing before it will even begin to look like it's been used. And it does block quite some wind.

It also have the grid interior for better moist transportation and breathability - like a patagonia R1 or capilene 4.

I find the fit perfect; long lean cut, no bunching in the arm pits when its under a shell, tighter fit on the underarms - again no bulk under a jacket, the thumbholes somehow just feels better than in any other jacket i've tried (don't notice there's any fabric in/around my palm). I have long arms, and the sleeves are long enough for me, and to actually use the thumbholes - I don't think shorter arms will be a problem though, since the sleeves are quite slim.

The hood fits tight enough around the face, but has space enough for all of my hair when it's done in the back of my head. And ther's a small brim.

Sizechart is accurate, but it is really an athletic fit! My messures are bust 94cm waist 79cm hip108cm I can use both M & L, but went with the large. I'm 5'9, with a long torso and the L has nice hiplenght, I do normally have a lot of of trouble finding sweaters and jackets that's long enough.

The pictures are accurate too, it IS very bright colors, and the black one is NOT black, it's charcoal like the picture - makes the colored details pop!!
