Mammut Ophir Chalk Bag
MammutOphir Chalk Bag

One less piece of webbing makes all the difference in the vertical world.

Instead of having a bulky belt for a chalk bag, the Mammut Ophir Chalk Bag attaches to Mammut's Ophir harness so you can trim down your waist a bit and have a cleaner, better organized harness. If you don't have an Ophir harness (yet), then this bag works just as well as most chalk bags with an included large waist belt that slides through two suspension points for a secure fit. Mammut made it out of Nylon Dragon for extreme durability and resistance to abrasion, and the thick fleece lining is sure to give you all the chalk you need for a dry, secure grip on holds. The drawcord closure keeps it tightly closed so chalk doesn't snow down on your belayer. A handy brush holder makes it easy for you to clean up any over-chalked hold, and the pocket stores your tape so you don't have to finish the rest of multipitches with torn-up fingers for lack of protection.

  • Nylon Dragon shell

Holds your chalk

Perfect little bag for climbing on the wall

Light, Compact, With Good Features.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I like the small pocket on this chalk bag. It is great for a ring or a car key, neither of which I want in my pocket or rolling around in the bottom of my backpack!

Big hands? No problem.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

A lot of reviewers have commented that the opening of the bag is small, but I don't believe it has that problem. I am 5'8" and have pretty large hands for a woman, but I have no trouble fitting my hand in the bag to grab chalk without issue. The complete closure and tiny side pocket are great features.

wish it was a little larger

i like draw string that keeps my chalk in the bag. I only wish it was a little bigger

Just right

Gave this bag to my best friend as her first chalk bag, and she loves it. She has small hands, so the size hasn't been an issue at all. In my opinion, the bigger the bag, the more chalk you'll spill when you forget to pull the drawstring, so I wouldn't want anything bigger than this. But, maybe I'm just spill-prone. Regardless, if you want a smaller, solid bag, this one's a great buy.

Good for kids

Quality is great, I just didn't realize how small it would be. Works great for my kids though!

Treat Bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I already had a chalk bag, so this gets used as a dog treat bag! it works great, and it means I can keep my hand warm on cold training days (gloves + treats + slobber is kind of gross). The attachment works great for holding a key, the side pocket is perfect for poop bags, and the drawcord works great to keep the treats from spilling out.

A+ Quality & great for kids

Purchased for my 8y/o daughter. Size works perfectly for her use, great quality & durability upon inspection. Easy to use.

Perfect Size Chalk Bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is the perfect size chalk bag. I love how wide the opening is for your hands. My old chalk bag always seemed too small but this one is perfect. When it is closed, no chalk can escape, keeping everything else in my bag clean of chalk dust.

I'm no longer sweaty!

This is a nice big bag, holds a ton of chalk and is easy to get your hands into. I climb regularly many times per week and I fill the bag up about once per month. In addition to this the bag has a nice belt system that can adjust to attach to a harness, or wrap around your waist for bouldering. I also just realized that the bag has a small pocket you could keep a some cash and credit cards in. Or more realistically your climbing gym membership card.

Great price, awesome little bag

I love this bag.

1) nice size for a small bag - will easily hold a chalk ball plus plenty of room for your hand
2) fleece lining is really nice and soft, which should not matter, but it feels so good when i put my hand in it!
3) drawstring, belt etc work as they should
4) great color scheme selection
5) nice price point. Hard to just buy one ;-)

coordinating with my harness and pants at Chelsea Piers in NYC

Great price, awesome little bag

Great Bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great construction, rugged, and a good looking bag. A relatively small bag, but it doesn't bother me because I have small hands. But overall I like it and have no complaints. I have yet to use the side pouch, but I like that I have that option if I need it. I haven't had the bag long, but I have used it several times and find it to be more than adequate. I would definitely recommend it.

Quality bag construction

Disclaimer: I haven't used this bag and these are initial impressions after taking it out of the package and playing with it.

Overall it's a standard chalk bag, and it's put together with quality materials. My hands, which are pretty average sized, fit nicely into the pouch, and the fleece lining is comfortable. It will definitely do the job of keeping my hands dry and grippy. I recommend the mammut ophir chalk bag.

The materials are great. The bag looks rugged and the stitching looks durable enough to handle climbing here in the rockies. I don't get the impression that any of the materials were skimped on.

Well, it has the draw string open pouch like every chalk bag, and it also has a small side pocket that, honestly, looks like it could barely fit a house key. It works for my gym pass (the key chain style) and you could probably fit a twenty in there. The waist band strap is easy to adjust, and what I like most about it is rather than moving the strap around your waist, the bag slides along the straps really smoothly.

The bag looks great. I love the color scheme (I got the blue and yellow version). The bright colors will hopefully ensure I don't lose this one like I did my black one.

Good bag

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This bag is a decent bag the only complaint I have with it is that i have larger hands and i sometimes have a hard time getting in and out of the bag. But other than that it is a very quality product!

Great bag for tiny hands

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This chalk bags is great if you have small hands or just like small chalk bags. I like my chalk bags small but this is just too small. Just not enough room to get your whole hand in to chalk up.

How it attaches to the Ophir Harness

I couldn't find a photo or description anywhere of how the Ophir Chalk Bag connected to the Ophir Harness, so here's one I took. It's a clever little system that uses a little plastic toggle that goes through the loop on the back of the harness and then through another, smaller, loop on the chalk bag.

How it attaches to the Ophir Harness

Thanks for posting this, very helpful to know this will also work with the Petzl Sama harness I have as well

I'm looking to get this as a gift, will...

I'm looking to get this as a gift, will the Ophir bag also attatch to the women's ophira harness? Thanks

Hey adap627630,

Most climbers choose to have the chalk bag attached by the waist band it comes with. If this breaks it is very easy to attach it to the harness by other means (carabiner ect.)

Yes, it will. The Ophira has the same little loop at the top of the waist band in the back. The Ophir chalk bag has a toggle that goes through that loop without having to use a carabiner (see my other photo on the Ophir chalk bag page).
