Would this jacket work well as a hardshell for big mountain skiing?

Waterproof, Comfortable, and Feminine

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I have had this jacket for several months and I wear it almost everyday. The cut is very flattering and the sleeves are very long. I always look for jackets with long enough sleeves but are also slim enough for my body. The jacket has some stretch in it, which was a big selling point for me when I went to the warehouse and tried on several other jackets too. I've gone rock climbing in it and it was very comfortable, moved with me well, and I didn't feel restricted by it at all. (And because of the pre-shaped design of the sleeves, they covered my wrists the whole time!) The hood is a good size, adjustable, and I really like the visor.

I've worn it in the dry Utah snow several times with layers underneath and it was perfect. I've been living in Mississippi on the Gulf Coast and it rains a lot this time of year. It keeps me very dry unless I wear it for longer periods of time or if the rain is very heavy. I went running in moderate rain for about an hour and the layer I wore under the jacket was slightly damp on the shoulders and upper back. The hood was damp on the inside too. So it does allow some moisture through which is a little disappointing but overall it is very waterproof and I don't get more than a little damp if I wear it for longer periods of time.

It is not as breathable or windproof as it claims to be, but I can fit layers underneath for warmth and the armpit vents conveniently have 2 zipper pulls each so you can open/close the vent from either end.

This jacket would be perfect if it was completely waterproof (even if worn for hours in the rain) and if the torso was longer (especially in the back). I haven't worn it cycling yet, but when I bend over to the ground, sometimes it comes up in the back (so it is not over the top of my pants anymore), so if it was raining, my lower back would get wet.

Overall, this is a great jacket and I recommend it. Definitely worth the money. I get compliments on it all the time.

Very pretty.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: SM

I am 120 lbs and 5'4". I always wear a small. I have another Mammut light jacket (Mammut Felsnadel Touring Jacket)that fits perfect on my hips and it is a SM. The Mammut Keiko Jacket jacket was too tight in the hips for me to wear comfortably. It was roomy on the top which I liked. If someone was very slim I am sure they would love this jacket as it looks very nice. I really liked the colors. It is well made and is med weight. If they would have had a medium I would have gotten it. I ended up returning the jacket.

Compact and warm

This jacket is very well constructed, zippers and seams are solidly constructed. Armpit zippers also very nice to cool the body when your getting your blood pumping. Initially went with size small (5'11 and 140lbs) well through arms and bust (34B) with room for a thin soft shell underneath...but through the waist and hips it felt a little small (and I don't really a curvy figure...hence my only reason for giving it 4stars instead of 5). I re-ordered a size medium for room for a fluffier soft shell underneath and more comfort in the waist for the long hikes and climbs with unexpected weather conditions. Twilight color is bold and should be fairly easy to spot on a white mtn.

Take home message: if you want to use this jacket with layers for alpine purposes I would suggest going a size up...if you want use this jacket as a everyday jacket with just a shirt or thin sweater then get your normal size.

As always-very pleased with the quality products Mammut pumps out...they may be a bit pricier than many brands but their apparel lasts longer under harsher conditions than just about any other outdoor apparel company I've tried. Definitely my favorite brand followed by Mountain Hardware and Obermeyer.

    Super stretch

Love my new Mammut Jacket, one of my favs for sure. Just traveled in rainy Germany and Switzerland and stayed dry and comfy. The stretch of this shell is amazing but feels good on the inside unlike my last jacket that was strtchy but felt like a olastic bag in th inside. Fit and features and the white color is amazing.
