Why We Like The Crag Classic Rope

Among Mammut's arsenal of climbing ropes, the Crag Classic Rope stands out as an inexpensive all-arounder that thrives at the crag whether it's bolted limestone or sandstone splitter. The thicker 9.8mm diameter delivers longer-lasting durability and better handling than it's skinnier counterpart. Mammut added a center mark to quicken rappel rigs.

Good rope, bad middle marker.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Good rope, handles well and its surprisingly durable. Handles much better than my petzl ropes. Unfortunately Mammut put a black middle marker on a black rope. This makes rappelling much more difficult than with other ropes, especially when its darker out. I want to be able to recommend this rope but the middle marker is a problem.

This rope was awesome for the first few months I used it. Soft and supple, but got shredded super fast and collected dirt even faster. After spending one long weekend sport climbing I found flat spots all through the rope and had to retire it.

Middle mark is difficult to see

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I love Mammut ropes, but the black middle mark on the black/white rope is barely visible so it makes it really difficult for multipitch and rappelling. I would recommend getting a lighter coloured rope if you depend on the middle mark (which in most cases, you always do). I don't know what Mammut was thinking when making this colour variation of the rope, but they need to make the middle mark more visible if the rope is the same colour as the middle mark. I've also had this rope since November 29 of 2020 and it's already developed a bunch of soft spots I have to cut off. Though granted, I've used this rope almost every weekend since then and it's gone on multiple multipitch climbs.
