I purchased this jacket last week with the intention of using this specifically in the back country. This past Saturday I got out for a tour and was really impressed with the light weight, the ability to breath and comfortable fit. On Sunday afternoon I rode the lifts during a good storm (wind and snow). The intent was to test the jacket against harsh conditions. To my surprise the jacket worked great. The water proofing was excellent as was the protection from the wind. I did wear a light puffer underneath for warmth. Highly recommend this jacket!
Does it have pit zips?
what a soft shell should be

So psyched on this new Base Jump SO. The Schoeller fabric is not a laminate like so many are these days. This means it is super breathable and wind and water resistant. Just what you want for skinning, alpine climbing and ice climbing. At $225 not a bad price and the fabric and build is high quality. Fit is trim but not so restrictive and runs true to size to slightly small.
Not since the earlier days of soft shell

Finally a soft shell made out the original Schoeller incredible fabric that is not a sweatbox. Not since the old Cloudveil Serendipity jacket has there been a soft shell that is tough as nails, super breathable and weather resistant like this. Seems like all new soft shells are like gore windstopper and others that are windproof and more water resistant, but don't breath at all. T hat is not the point of a soft-shell. It need to be tough and breathable. This Base Jump SO jacket is just that. Perfect for ski touring and ice climbing. This fabric can take a ton of abuse and water rolls right off of it. Best of all it is truly breathable but still blocks some wind. if you want waterproof throw on a hard shell. This thing also seems like a great value knowing it will last a long time. I'd say it runs true to size, has great sleeve length and if anything is an athletic fit, i.e., not big and boxy but just right.
