Head into cold, unforgiving mountain environments armed with the compressible, insanely warm protection of the Mammut Men’s Ambler Hooded Down Jacket. Stuffed with lightweight, high-lofting 750-fill goose down, the Ambler packs huge heat for stormy days at basecamp, on frigid belays, and any other time where a loss of core warmth equals game over. The baffled construction eliminates cold spots, and the DWR coating adds durable water-resistance.

As you wear the Ambler, you'll appreciate the reinforced Pertex Endurance shoulders as well as the bomber Pertex Microlight face material that's lightweight yet durable. Both panels are downproof so you never feel a feather. The Ambler has tons of pockets for organization, and the adjustable waist and hood cinch down to seal out the cold. Mammut also added a packing bag for compact convenience inside your backpack.

Its Like Wearing a Sleeping Bag!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I love this jacket. It is warm, comfortable, durable, and very packable. Its warmth to weight ratio is great. It is like putting on a sleeping bag and getting all cozy whenever I pull it out of my pack. I hardly ever travel without it. It has become my go-to puffy when I am stopped for lunch on a ski tour, belaying in the winter, working in snowpits, camping on glaciers, or just need to stay warm in the winter. I have even used it in combination with a super light summer weight sleeping bag on Rainier to make my pack light but still be warm when I am sleeping. The only downside is that it is not fireproof ;) doh.
It fits true to size with slightly longer than normal sleeves which is also nice for when you want to pull your hands inside the cozy warm sleeves. I am 6'2" 150 lbs with a torso that is pretty short and long legs. I typically wear a medium sized jacket and my Ambler is also a medium.

Some of my favorite features:
* Great warmth to weight ratio
* The shell material is down-proof so the feathers don't leak out. It is also somewhat water resistant.
* Awesome hood that easily cinches up around your head.
* Well placed and good sized pockets.
* Incredible coziness!

Good jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: small

bought it for my wife as she fist better into the men's down jackets as we've come to find and she absolutely loves the jacket. The fill is perfect for our cold Alaskan mornings and standing around a cross country ski race. we haven't tried the jacket under any exceptional conditions yet but I can assume that it will perform just as good as it has so far

seems super warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

i'm always cold when camping. looking forward to trying this one out. tried it on in the house for a few minutes, and got hot just checking out the pockets. contains a stuff sack, which is nice.
Size and fit are as expected for an XL. nice amount of loft without being too giant and puffy.
minus 1 star because I received a returned item. had ripped up bag and dust all over one arm. at the price i should have known. other worry is the feathers, as there were 2 in the bag - hoping it holds up long term. time will tell, and i've heard good things about mammut's warranty so fingers crossed.

Warm Enough for Glaciers

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This parka was helpful on my ascent of Mt. Rainer. I was worried about choosing the medium because of all my base layers below, but it stretched well and was actually super-comfy. I would start shivering after 5 mins after holding still during the breaks, but this was a piece of gear that made it possible to get to the summit.

I gave it four stars because maybe there is a warmer coat out there for glacier travel, but I don't know what that would be. Also, I live in a temperate climate, so this may be a perfect jacket for someone well acclimated to cold temperatures. I added a pic of me in the parka, just coming out of some crummy weather, to help you get the idea of how cold it was.

May I ask what time of year you did Rainer? I'm wanting to go in June and was thinking about this jacket.
