Another standard set.
Lamson has always been at the forefront of lightweight reel designs, and the Waterworks Force SL Reel Series II Fly Reel is the most recent continuation of Lamson's commitment to innovation. The Force is no spring chicken when it comes shaving some serious weight from fly fishing rigs. In fact, Lamson's been refining the design of the Force series since it was first released over 20 years ago, making each iteration of the reel lighter and increasing retrieval rates with each new design. The Series II builds on this foundation with an even larger arbor to yet again increase the retrieval rate—without adding to the overall weight of the reel. Throw in a fully machined alloy construction, fully sealed conical disc drag, and hard alox finish for increased durability, and it's easy to see why anglers have trusted the Force (in one form or another) over the last two decades.
- Lamson's lightest version of its popular Force fly reel
- Super large arbor yields impressive line retrieval rates
- Machined alloy construction with hard alox finish for durability
- Sealed conical drag protects moving components from corrosion
- Fully machined and assembled in Idaho, USA
Use the Force Luke
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I currently own a variety of Force reels from Waterworks-Lamson and they've become my go to family of reels from WL. I picked the size 3 reel to accompany an extremely light weight 8wt rod and it pairs perfectly, this is the lightest reel I own. I've used this reel to chase Bonefish in the Bahamas, Musky, Pike, Trout and Carp and the conical drag system has held up to everything I can throw at it. As with all Force series reels, the line can wrap around the exposed rim of the spool and seize things up but it happens so rarely I do not consider this an issue.
Perfect Lightweight Spool
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
The Lamson reels provide for a no fuss easy to change reel system as most reels do but what makes the Lamson Waterworks reels unique is that they are among the lightest weight reels and spools on the market. I have one paired with my 2 and 3 weight rods. The milled reel and spool make for an ultralight and responsive rod/reel combo that is tough to beat.
If you get a spare spool, be sure you have: (1) a reel with a quick change system; and (2) a reel line keeper (usually velcro) to keep the fly line contained on the spool.
