Small issues

Had them for a month and one of the front straps came out from the sole . Would have been replaced by Backcountry however we where out of the US to long. Pity as they are cool shoes

    Fell apart much too quickly

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I got these shoes for a seven day canoe trip in the Boundary Waters with the hope they would be a great alternative to having wet boots all day. For the most part, I liked them a lot - only on portages with pebbly landings was I sad about them. But, they started falling apart on day three! The straps started tearing, and the sole started delaminating, which I wasn't super impressed with.

I really like these shoes because I've broken bones in my ankle and feet in the past and these shoes keep my toes protected, along with the support I need for my ankles. I originally bought them to wear in the baths at Virgin Gorda on a recent cruise, however I found myself wearing them to get on and off the ship in every port we were at. I do love flip-flops but these shoes provide me with a level of safety knowing that my bare feet won't get stepped on in crowds. They are true to size and snug, but in a good way. I have a feeling I will wear them often this summer on Martha's Vineyard.

    I love them!

These are my first pair of Keens, and I love them! They're comfortable, they're versatile, and they pack well. Originally, I bought them for a trip to Costa Rica, but I've worn them so much more than I expected. They're great for the trails, the water, and even around town... anytime I know that I'll be on my feet for a long while, these are the shoes for me.

    Awesome shoe

I was looking for a similar shoe for quite some time before I bought these. Even though I couldn't try one on locally, this shoe is true to size. I could stay in them all day long, which I may do! They are snug to get on, but that's good because they don't move, and I have plenty of room in the toe. Yet, they are easy to take off. I HIGHLY recommend this shoe.

    Perfect!

Thinking of Getting a Second Pair!

These have lasted me almost a full year now with more to go! These have been through miles and miles of walking through Japan and also hiking in Haleakala in Hawaii! I honestly also use these for running, as they have good support for my wide and flat feet. Only drawback is that they tend to stink after a while. I can easily spray these down with a hose when I get home and they are as good as new but they make my feet stink and are sticky after a long day. Easily fixable when wearing socks but still annoying. The only signs of wear are color degradation and the front inside rubber where my feet hit each other is cracking a bit, but I don't see this affecting wear for another year or so. Hoping to buy a second pair soon, I love these so much! I wear these instead of sneakers!

    She loves them

I got these as a gift for my boyfriends mom and she loved them

      Newports

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

I got these for my mom as an early Mother's day present. She's owned a few Newports for the last 5-6 years or so and absolutely loves them, so I figured I'd stay with the usual since hers need replacing. They're a very versatile shoe that can be used in almost any day to day setting.

      new favorite shoe

These Keen's are seriously my favorite thing in my closet. I wear them biking, hiking, golfing, running errands- you name it. I have pretty wide and flat feet, so shoe support is really important to me. I could wear them every day if it didnt get cold out. They are super easy to wash and I havent seen any damage to them. At first I thought they were a little too big, but as I walk around (especially hiking in the heat or through some water) my feet tend to swell up a bit and they fit perfectly. I think I would be nervous to size down.

Not The Best Still Pretty Solid

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs small

My first pair of Keen sandals were a size 8.5 and it was a couple years before I saw signs of wear and tear. This pair I purchased was size 9.5 (comfortable with a pair of thick wool socks) so in the last 6 years the sizing has changed. This pair replaced a pair of Keens that I returned after less than one season of use because they were coming unstitched. This new pair has done some hiking in the Mt St Helens area late this season and I hope they last at least a couple years. Also, a great pair of shoes for river fording - that's why I keep buying them!

      Love these sandals

My wife loves her Keens! She can wear these all day long with no blisters or problems of any kind. Her only advice, besides to buy these sandals, is to remember to rinse them off after sandy or salt water trips because that can get abrasive on your feet. But she loves getting out there with these sandals!

      Size issue

So disappointed, had tried on a 7 1/2, just a little too small, ordered an 8. , could not even get foot in.......sizing must be off!

        Already falling apart.

I have always loved Keen, but (like many companies) I think they've given up on much commitment to making durable, long-lasting products. This is my third pair. My first (bought around 6 years ago) were great until I decided I wanted a change about 2 years ago. My second pair was of the "Whisper" variety, and only lasted a few months before starting to rip. I thought I'd try the Newports for some more heel support, thinking the ripping on the Whispers was an anomaly, but the same thing has started happening with these. I've only worn them for two months, but they are already starting to rip at the seams of the elastic. It's pretty disappointing, and I am contacting the company about this.

Do you happen to have a 7 1/2 medium width on the women's keen Newport 2 neutral gray/ misty jade ? Thank you for your help.

        TERRIBLE durability!!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these sandals while on a roadtrip to wear on a 21 mile desert hike. The sandals started to fall apart at the joints of the rear heel strap on both sides and on both sandals, while I was only on mile 16, literally during my first day of use. I was surprised to see that the webbing that connects the rear heel strap to the rest of the sandal is not a continuous piece. This is clearly a huge design flaw since the heel strap is a major structural component! VERY disappointed in Keen - I've had several pairs of Keens in my life, and they've always been awesome, but these sandals clearly FAIL in quality. I would expect more than 1 day of use in a $100 pair of sandals. Not to mention that I was worried I couldn't even finish my hike!

        TERRIBLE durability!!

I've had the pleasure of owning a pair of these for 6 years now and there's NO SIGN OF WEAR!! Worth every penny. I also use these either road biking or riding trails, and wore them for 3 days of Ragbrai this summer. However you don't want to run in them, they will give you blood blisters after the first mile, and then you will have to carry them in your hands while you walk the next mile back home.

why do I need the socks if i'll be in the water?

        Hey marilyn,

        Thanks for your question.

I would not recommend socks if you will be in water.

        Best Answer

        Yo Marilyn,

I don't mean to stick my nose in other people's business, and I'd never doubt a BC.com gear guru (they are always right!), but in case you you are interested.... If the kind of water you are in involves walking in streams with lots of sand and small rocks for any distance, it's easy to get abrasions on your toes when wearing sandals. That's about the only case I'd recommend socks - but not your normal sock... In this case I'm a fan of neoprene socks to keep the debris out and also add a little warmth if your hiking down a cold wet canyon!

Keen Newports : best shoe in the world

Good but not a great canoe-camping shoe

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: Runs large

I've had these shoes for a few years and used them on multi-day paddling-camping trips. I love that the toe is protected - it's great to walk through the woods carrying a kayak or gear and not have to watch out for twigs. I also like that the sole is pretty sturdy and has "siping" (like car tires!) to increase traction on wet rocks. These features are key in the great lakes where stepping out of your boat might mean hitting a razor-sharp zebra mussel. I really want to love these shoes but for one the stitching came lose after the first few times I wore them. The second issue I have is they take a long time to dry. Wearing wet shoes around camp after a day of paddling isn't fun. They also collect a lot of water in the toe when canoeing so I usually end up taking them off in the boat. Keen only has one shoe style with drain holes in the sole - I wish more of their shoes had this feature. I wish I could say this was a great paddling shoe but I will have to continue my search. I sized-down half a size.
