Kali’s a name you know from their ultra-protective trail helmets and full-faces, but they’ve now applied that technology to a road line. The Maraka was designed to keep your head safe, while also making sure you stay as cool as possible. The helmet features a stunning 25 vents, oriented in a variety of ways, so that air passes in, over and off your head, no matter how fast you’re traveling.

Embedded in the polystyrene layer of the helmet are EPS foam cones, which are designed to disperse impact energy, and direct it away from your head in the event of a crash. Kali are the only company using this technology, and claim that it allows them to make a lighter, stronger, safer helmet.

Superb comfort & fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M/L

I've owned mine for 3 years (avg. 2K miles/yr) and it is the most comfortable, best-fitting helmet I've ever worn. It fits down on your head, not up on top of it. I love the interior netting insert - with a shaved head, I've had two very painful bites as a hornet and a wasp have flown in through big vents and stung me badly. But the Kali net means I'm not afraid. If you're not hung up on big name/big price, I strongly suggest you try the Kali Maraka. I still can't believe it lists for only $160. I will be ordering another one.

Better than others at higher prices

This is my favorite helmet. I have a number of helmets, including more expensive ones, and this is my all-around, go-to. It feels great and I have a shaved head so I can feel everything. The only bugger, as mentioned elsewhere is that the straps force me to wear my Oakley M2s under them. Not a big deal to me. They still don't buzz during a 40 mph bombing of American Fork Canyon. The slide adjustment (vs a twist/knob) is simple and precise. Ventilation is plenty.

    Really comfortable helmet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The is the most comfortable helmet I own. The EPS foam really does work. It's like wearing a pillow! It also looks great. At 283g for a large size, it's a tiny bit heavier than other helms but the comfort makes you forget you're wearing a helmet. It's really a hidden gem out of all these pricier selections.

The only small gripe I have is the strap anchor will sometimes force you to wear your sunglasses on the inside of the straps.

My head is exactly 58 so which should I buy? Medium or large?

    Maraka R comfy and secure

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently purchased the Kali Maraka R. First off, it arrived a day early, so thanks to Competitive Cyclist for the great turn around.

It's a good looking helmet. It vents well. It feels quite secure and offers nice coverage. It fits very well and I think they are on to something with the small additions of the memory foam.

I'm basing all of this on my initial rides with this helmet. Before riding, I tried the helmet on a few times, getting used to the straps and the padding. Glasses need to go on the inside of the straps, but not a problem. the way they are stitched, they won't buzz on you either. I comfrimed this with several segments over 40mph.

My first ride was about an hour in length and i had the standard pads in the helmet. after about 10 minutes, I mde a small adjustment. From there, it was perfectly comfy.

For my second ride, it was sunnier and warmer and I knew the insects would be out. spring is what they are waiting on, after all. Anyway, I put in the padding with the insect net. The fit was as good as before. the venting was definitely okay. After 5 hours in the saddle, I still felt cool and had no issues. It was as comfortable at 5 hours as is was at the begininng. I can't say the same about my high end helmet this is replacing. I really credit the foam and construction with this great performance. The lower and mid density foam coupled with the memory type foam makes this thing awesome. Plus, it looks really good, if that matters to you. cheers,

just me providing a follow up. It's been a month and I've gotten in a few hundred miles including 2 centuries. The helmet is keeping me cool. It remains comfortable. No issues with 2 different Tifosi glasses. I even wore my prescription specs one time. All good. In all, a great helmet at a good price point.
