Heavy cushion for serious hiking.
When the trail is less of a trail and more of a series of cairns strewn through a scree field, make sure you have a pair of Icebreaker Men's Hike Heavy Crew Socks to cradle your feet over miles of rocky terrain. Merino wool helps regulate your temperature so your feet don't overheat, and with merino's natural antimicrobial properties, these socks aren't going to get overly stinky on multi-day trips. Heavy cushion throughout the socks keep your feet going, and support at the Achilles tendon and instep helps prevent bunching.

Socks for days!
Merino wool is the best material for socks because the moisture wicking and antibacterial properties mean you can wear these for days without stink. As a bonus, these are the softest and most comfortable socks ever.
I don't use these for hiking since they're thicker weight than I normally use, but they're just really nice in the winter to keep my feet warm at home or around town.
Used for Backcountry Skiing
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
I've got 8 days of backcountry skiing on these socks so far and they work well. I like nice thick socks in AT boots, so these fit the bill. They also fit my foot well, and I'd say they run "true to size."
I'm not a sock engineer (is there even such a thing?) but these socks seem to stretch out quite a bit more than other premium brand socks, which means unless you wash them after every usage, they tend to get baggy and fold over when being slid into a boot liner.
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
- Fit: True to size
Comfortable, washes nicely, warm. What more can you ask for?
Icebreaker Heavy Socks
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs small
I have tried tons of different socks throughout the years. These are very nice socks, the blend is okay. They are very warm, great for low and mid cut trail shoes. No issues here, not to say this is the best choice of sock for hiking, but it is nice to tryout random brands. Sizing as follows: large is suppose to be 11-13ish, I wear a 10.5 the large fit me perfectly.
