Take on big mountain lines in winter's worst with the warm protection of Hestra's Freeride CZone Mitten. Boasting an impregnated cowhide leather exterior, along with a waterproof, breathable CZone insert, this mitten holds up through all-day mountain missions to keep your hands comfortably dry and protected from the elements. Foam insulation combats frigid temps found on high, while the neoprene cuff and adjustable strap cinch down against blustery conditions.

  • Tough, toasty mitten designed for serious winter riding
  • Waterproof, breathable insert protects against snowy days
  • Foam insulation traps body heat for lasting warmth
  • Impregnated cowhide leather is durable and comfortable

I’d give zero stars if possible

I don’t know where to start.

I guess a good place to start is that I’m 26 and this is the first time in my life that I’m leaving a review for something I bought.

I finally decided to spring for a decent pair of mittens and knew all about Hestra’s reputation. The price seemed steep but I figured I’d have these for a long time.

First, the liners to this mitten are glove liners. I know that’s a personal preference thing, but I loathe that. The whole point of mittens is that they take advantage of your body heat to keep your hands warm. I don’t think that Hestra makes it clear that the liners are gloves and not mittens.

I just took a trip up to Vermont and it was a pretty mild weekend. For the three days I snowboarded the high was about 35 and low was maybe 25 with not much wind. My hands were FREEZING the whole time. My body runs pretty hot and my hands don’t usually get all that cold (which is why I didn’t think the glove liners would be a big deal).

For almost 170 bucks these mitts should keep your hands warm in that kind of weather. I’m really just blown away.

These might be serviceable for spring skiing, but please please do yourself a favor and go with another mitt. My wife got a pair of Alpine Pros and those things are like mini ovens.

The aesthetic of the mitts is awesome but the functionality is extremely low. They’re borderline unusable.
