Alpha Tango Zulu.

From long-haul day hikes to overnight backpacking trips, the Gregory Zulu 40 Backpack has you covered from A to Z. Although it's the smallest pack in the Zulu series, this 40-liter option will still comfortably support loads up to thirty-five pounds with its CrossFlo DTS suspension and lightweight, flexible spring steel frame. CrossFlo DTS is specifically designed to maximize space between your back and the pack to help keep things cool and comfortable, and Gregory placed EVA foam along the hips and shoulder harness to keep your load comfortably when you're on the trail. Packing and organizing gear in the Zulu is made easy with the large U-zip access panel, and the front stash pocket is an ideal spot to store any extra layers or maps you might need quick access to. Gregory also threw in an integrated rain cover, so you'll always be ready for those right-on-cue afternoon rain showers that like to frequent the alpine.

Will the hip strap pockets fit an iPhone X or similar sized phone in a medium size backpack? It seemed like at REI that the large size had larger hip pockets than the medium size.

I have an iphone 8plus and it fits in the medium pack, it's a pretty tight squeeze but it does fit.

Great pack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First experience with Gregory and I have no complaints. I bought this pack for short hikes and to double as a crag pack. The J zipper is perfect for easy access to rope, climbing shoes, etc. I highly recommend this product!

Osprey can fly

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Terrific pack. After a summers worth of usage, on long day hikes, this pack really over-performs. Its amazing on how much it takes the load off your back. Plenty of pockets, access, hooks, cords, etc for all manner of gear from fly fishing tubes, to rain fly access. It does take a few times to figure out which clip goes to what strap, as there are many of them, but I like the learning curve. Top notch big daypack. BC is also amazing, fast shipping, accurate order pulls, and superb service.

Are there straps on the bottom of this pack to strap a sleeping pad?

Hi Randy,

Those two loops are generally going to be used to help secure your trekking poles or ice axe handles.
