Great backpack for day hikes
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I bought this pack to use as my primary pack for day hikes. I initially had some issues with my order processing, and didn’t realize until the day before I planned to leave for a weeklong camping trip. Backcountry reps were awesome and overnight shipped the backpack when I inquired about the processing issue, so it arrived just in time!
Now to the details of the pack: it’s sturdy, fairly lightweight, and the structure of the pack makes it fit and carry very well. I’m a female of average build (5’8” and 135lbs) and it fits perfectly. Features that I really like are the sunglasses loop on the left shoulder strap, the water reservoir tube clip on the right shoulder, and the easy-access top pouch lined with soft fabric for phones, glasses, etc. The zipper pulls are a nice ergonomic design and I’ve had no issues with the zippers snagging or anything. This pack has side compression straps that many of the larger overnight backpacking packs I’ve seen have, which make it versatile for different hikes where you may need to carry more or less gear. The hip belt is not only removable, but also has strap buckles that allow you to pull the extra length of the hip belt straps back away from you and out of the way, that way they won’t dangle in front of you as you hike. I find that 18L seems to be the perfect size for even a challenging and lengthy day hike. I was initially concerned that 18L may be too small, but I’m glad I was mistaken. This pack fits my 2.5L water reservoir, an extra layer, a wind shell, my snacks (protein bars, avocado, nuts), a small pack of wipes, a first aid kit, a portable charger, my Soto Amicus stove (plus fuel), a freeze-dried backpacking meal, and other small essentials perfectly. Overall I love this pack and am very happy with it, it’s definitely my go-to from now on!
