Aero, safe, cool—pick three.
Giro's Vanquish MIPS Helmet reaches the zenith of high-performance road cycling helmets. Giro spent countless hours studying the science—and art of mastering—airflow, which dictates the helmet’s shape and vent designs. Months of aerodynamic development, dozens of prototypes, and extensive feedback from pros inform the Vanquish MIPS, Giro's ultimate aero road helmet.
As an evolution on the popular Air Attack, this model features an innovative TransformAir design that actively streamlines airflow. An aerodynamic “cliff” tricks the air by reducing drag and provides the aerodynamic efficiency of a full teardrop helmet in a profile that is more comfortable and versatile in a variety of head angles. Four Polycarbonate Hardbodies make the helmet lighter, more aerodynamically efficient, and durable. No detail went unnoticed and even the helmet straps have been tuned with aerodynamics in mind. Giro’s proprietary Tri-Glides system allows the helmet’s featherweight webbing to lie flat against your face, increasing comfort and reducing aerodynamic drag.
With all of those aero developments, it might be easy to forget proper ventilation, leading to hot heads on climbs and during summer months. But not so on the Vanquish. Wind Tunnel ventilation allows air to flow smoothly across the top of your head to deliver optimum cooling inside the entire helmet without increasing aerodynamic drag. Inside the Vanquish is an EPS liner with a progressive layering of multi-density foam that saves weight and allows the Vanquish to help absorb a wide range of impact energies. The renowned RocLoc Air system seamlessly integrates with MIPS Technology to enhance comfort and cooling power while providing an additional measure of impact diffusion in certain impacts.
All Vanquish helmets include a Vivid shield making the helmet even faster by streamlining airflow. The road-tuned Vivid lens increases contrast and definition to bring road obstacles in stark relief while keeping colors true-to-life. If you choose to forgo the shield and wear shades, integrated eyewear grippers provide easy and secure sunglasses storage should lighting diminish.
This no-compromise helmet is packed full of features designed to improve your ride, from its best-in-class aerodynamic efficiency, exceptional ventilation, and innovative solutions in head protection. This lid will encourage you to get into every breakaway, crush the bike leg of a Tri, or get the most out of your watts for the toss at the line. Regardless of the circumstances, Giro creates the Vanquish MIPS to manage the wind so you can perform at your best.

- Q & A
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I would definitely recommend this and buy it again. I'm not a huge fan of most aero helmets but love the looks and functionality of this one. The shield is magnetic and can stow upside down on the front for any time you need to ride with it off. It's comfortable and is good for regular everyday rides as well as races.
Shield works well
- Fit: True to size
I purchased this helmet to use with sunglasses and it works very well in this manner. I had not used a helmet with a shield before and thought it looked funky. One ride, I decided to put the shield on and what a revelation - the shield works great, a marked improvement over sunglasses for 3 reasons:
1. Visibility is much better, especially looking up at the road from the drops.
2. When wearing a cap under the helmet to cover my ears, there is no need to keep pushing sunglasses back as the normal ear perch is covered.
3. The optics of the shield are excellent, magnifying every detail in the texture of the road.
Aside from the shield, this helmet is very comfortable and includes MIPS, a great plus as most aero road helmets do not.
I can not measure the aero but it is very quiet, usually an indicator of less drag causing air turbulence.
I have a Giro Valegro helmet I use in the very hot Texas summer but I use this helmet for everything else and love it.
Would glasses fit under the shield?
No there isn't really enough room to fit glasses behind the visor. You can remove the visor and wear glasses instead though.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The most noticeable thing is the lense not sitting on the bridge of your nose. The lense itself is outstanding in contrast. Think of it as Maui Jim's quality lenses. Airflow is excellent as well but to be honest it hasn't been used in 80 plus degree weather. Yeah it's a bit pricey but I have no regrets.
