The Evolution Continues

The first Giro Nine helmet was introduced in 2001, and has remained a staple of Giro's wintersports line-up ever since, and for 2015, the anti is upped yet again. As was the original, the new Nine's in-mold polycarbonate shell construction keeps weight down and strength up. That shell's design has been re-shaped into a sleeker, lower-profile design, too, and integrated into it are both Super Cool vents with Thermostat Control adjustability and Giro's Stack Vent up front to keep goggles from fogging. The Nine also utilizes Giro's In Form Fit System makes it easy to dial in the perfect fit, even with gloves, while the Vertical Tuning feature can accommodate a wide variety of both head and goggle shapes. Rounding everything out is the helmet's compatibility with all aftermarket Giro audio systems so you can keep the jams pumping. The Giro Nine helmet comes in Matte Dark Shadow, Matte Black, Matte Blue, Matte White, and Red. The available sizes and their dimensions are below.

  • Small: 52-55.5cm
  • Medium: 55.5-59cm
  • Large: 59-62.5cm
  • X-Large: 62.5-65cm

Cant be beat for the price

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fits perfect and looks awesome. I use it for skiing and fat biking in the winter. Good venting when you flip the switch. I love it. Runs a little big but it can be adjusted and works great with a beanie or thin hat.

Protectin' My Noggin

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have snowboarded for 20 years without a helmet...but I now have other people who depend on me (yeah, growing up sux) so it was time to protect my head. This is a fantastic lightweight helmet at good price - especially when you get it on sale! I recommend this helmet.

Great helmut for a guy with a big head!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love the adjustable venting and even with my rather XL size head I can still wear a pull over cap under the helmut. Learning to Snowboard and ski on very icy conditions would of been so painful without it. Slammed my head a few times thanks to others and this bucket saved me a lot of pain.

great helmet great helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Giro makes great helmets, they have never disappointed. Fit is great and the retention is excellent. The others I've owned have held up perfectly over time and I would expect the same out of the Nine.

Best Helmet for Large Heads

I bought this as a gift for my dad. He has a large head and always struggles to find a helmet that fits him right. Step in the Giro Nine, with adjustable fit and larger sizes. Can't be beat. Plus the protection and functionality is great as well.

    Nice light, warm helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I use this helmet yesterday during a powder day and it worked like a charm. The vents are great, especially for warmer ski days. Very warm for how light it is. Easy to adjust for sizing.

Sons head is 55cm, size small or medium? He is only 7 so would like him to get at least a couple seasons

Hey Scott, I would suggest the medium, as this helmet has some give between sizes, and it can certainly grow with him.

    Giro Nine Helmet

    Nice helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this helmet for my fiance and I've been using it more than him. It's light but warm. Vents open and close on the top. Great for the price too

    Excellent helmet for large(st) heads

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have a very large head (25.5in/65cm) and after trying the other two recommended helmets for large heads, the Anon Helo and the Smith Vantage, I can easily say that the Giro Nine XL is the only one that fits. It's quite simple really - I easily removed the velcro helmet liner then popped out the tightening system and removed it altogether. Then I put the velcro helmet liner back in and it fits perfectly.

My goggles are Smith I/OX and they work fine with this helmet design. I opted for the Smith Vantage however their XL is not a true XL like this one.

The quality of helmet is great. It is slightly more oval and fits my head well, and the button on top to open/close the vents is a great design. Looking forward to using it this upcoming winter season!
