PNW Mountaineering
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I purchased this shoe for light alpine climbing, bushwhacking and scrambling in the Pacific Northwest and it has delighted me with its versatility. I found the shoe stretches about 1/2 size during use, and is still suitable for rock climbing and scrambling, carrying a pack and kicking steps in snow. If you want footwear that is lighter than a mountaineering boot and more supportive and climbs better than a trail shoe, the Dragontail is a great option.
I've had other Garmont, Five Ten and Scarpa approach shoes in the past, and this one is by far the most cushiony - more similar last to a boot than a rock shoe. It can perhaps best be described as a low-top hiking boot with a rock climbing boot toe box.
Amazing shoes! ... for narrow feet
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: True to size
This shoe looks really well built. I would love it fit me, but unfortunately my fat feet were not comfortable in them. I think they would do well with normal or narrow feet!
Unbelievable...best boot ever...
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: 10
If you want a supportive, solid boot this is your ticket. I love this boot and highly recommend it. Light weight and yet solid for heavy long distance to easy day hikes. You won't regret this purchase.I typically wear a size 9.5 but sized up to 10 and it's a great fit.
