Quality pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 40

I've worn these several times and can make the following observations:
They run a tad small. I am a pretty reliable 29 in pants and had to get a EUR 40 (US 30-31). Fitted through hip/thigh, baggy below articulated knees. Generous rise- about 2" above hip bones and 1" below belly button; back rise slightly higher (no crack!!). They seem cut for real women with real bodies and curves, not girls, which I really love (Patagonia, take note). I love the two tone Storm/Night it's a nice navy. Fabric doesn't make noise when walking (which I also appreciate a lot) or stretch at all. They do run a tad long as well (I'm a solid 32" inseam). Bottom cuff has metal hooks for boot laces like a gaiter. All in all, these are durable, quality pants that are comfortable. I wouldn't have kept them at full price, but found them for a deal on Steep & Cheap. Thanks Backcountry! Oh and as a side-note: compared to the Keb pants, these are rigid. I wear a 42 in the Keb, which is due to the tight thigh fit, but leaves the waist a bit loose. Where the Keb has the reinforced panels the fabric is the same as the Vidda. But elsewhere on the Keb the material is lighter weight and quite stretchy.

Too long

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 40

These are great quality pants but made for folks that wear 34-36" length pants. The waist fit perfectly. And because of the cinched bottoms, you can't cuff them. Sadly I will be returning these pants and probably not ordering this brand of pant again.

Really nice pants,

  • Size Bought: 34/26"

I really loved these pants but had to return them. I have the Fjallraven Keb pants in a size 34 reg and can get away with it, but the style on these is different enough that they are both too long and too large in the hips and waist. I think if they had the short size I could deal with the bagginess, but otherwise if you're on the small size the Keb pants might be a better fit.

Super helpful review, Laura!! Thanks for taking the time to share your expertise!

Highly technical, great design

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 36

I wanted a pair of durable, technical pants for some serious hiking, but also wanted them to look cool enough to wear off the mountain. These are it! You are getting so much for your money. These pants are durable, but still move freely. They offer numerous pockets which come in handy when you need to be hands free. I purchased the black on black, and I've worn these around town without feeling like a mountain bum. The Fjallraven brand is extremely high end, and you know you're getting quality and design. I wear a 4-6 or 26-27 size pant and the 36 fits great. Tried the 34 too but was much too small. You'll want some give and room to move around and even add a base layer in colder months. Love these pants - year round!

Do you feel these are too long? I am 5'3" and worried that this will look weird with all the extra fabric bunching at the bottom. I usually just get petite/short sizes but i cant find the short version of these and really want to get them.

If you take these to a Fjallraven store, they will hem them for free! But I haven't ever hemmed mine. I wear them mostly with hiking boots, so they kind of bunch at the bottom, but they are narrow enough in the end of the leg where they don't drag and get holes. They would be easy to hem if you needed to though.

Durable, lots of features

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These pants are pretty awesome. The reinforced areas mean I can scramble up and down rocks without worrying about ripping them. The cuffs have snap closures to cinch them tight, as well as little metal clips to attach to your laces like a gaiter. Millions of pockets hold your map, knife, firestarter, GPS/PLB, phone, etc. The only downside to these pants is that they contain cotton. They are nominally water-resistant, but once you get them wet in the rain, they stay very soaked, so these are probably not a great choice in the winter. This is the reason I didn't rate them 5 stars. (Also you do need to reapply the wax if you want them to stay water repellant after repeated washings. The wax is $20 per bar, be aware.)

What size did you purchase?

Unanswered Question

Does this Fjall Raven pant have a gussetted crotch? If this style does not, are there other Fjall Raven styles that do have a gussetted crotch?

Thank you.

This review is probably premature, since I haven't given these pants a trail trial yet - but I wanted to weigh in for ladies out there who're flummoxed by the Swedish sizing system. After scouring the size chart and lots of reviews, I wasn't sure which size to buy, so I ordered BOTH a 36 & a 38. I'm 5'6" - 120 lbs.; 29" waist; 37" hips with an athletic build and trim, muscular legs. According to the chart, I'm a 38 - but the size 36 fits beautifully. Loose enough for comfort, fitted enough to look sharp. Based on other buyer's comments, I also worried these might be stiff and scratchy, but I've been wearing them around the house all afternoon and they feel great. I bought them for a week-long trek along the Haute Route in Switzerland this September, so the real test is yet to come. But, so far, soooo good!

Little long if you're petite

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

  • Size Bought: 38

The sizing chart was a little hard to read so I wasn't sure about the size, but the pants I got fit well (they're a little larger than most people would probably like, so maybe size down if you're a similar size to me, but I like the less tight fit). It would be great if these came in a petite, my inseam is definitely shorter than these pants, but with hiking boots, it doesn't pose much of a problem.

Great Pants, very comfortable

I love that there are very deep pockets for maps and things. They fit me pretty well. I am 5'9" 135 pounds with athletic thighs. There were roomy enough for me. My waist is 28 inches so they are a bit big in the waist but not so big that wearing them with a belt was uncomfortable.
I wish they came in longs as I would have liked them just a bit longer. My inseam is 33 inches. These are the best hiking pants I have found.

Since I am not very familiar with European sizing I can't really say if these are true to size or not.

I had exactly the same experience with these pants, which is what stopped me from purchasing them right on the spot. I'm 5'9 as well and weigh 125. I found that the sizing was tricky to get right around the waist, and that they were comfortable through the thighs. I opted for one size up in the waist from what I normally wear, 26 and found that as you said, they were roomy enough and not uncomfortable when belted. I wish these pants were a few inches longer!
They were so unbelievably comfortable that if it the fit had been a bit more on point, I would have bought them on the spot.
Any regrets on purchasing them, despite them being a little short in the length??

Hey there,
The Nikka Trousers are actually a raw hem trouser. I'm curious if Backcountry pre-hems them to a certain length, but if you'd like a longer pair, buy a pair from any of the Fjallraven retail stores. They'll get them hemmed to your inseam for free!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

My husband bought these pants for me for Christmas. I loved them the only problem is the fit. The pants overall fit in the waist, hips and length but not the thighs. The cut of the pants are for a person with a slim build. Also, the size chart is hard to figure out.

The best hiking pants ever!

These are awesome hiking pants! I've been able to break them in on a 7 mile hike in New York's Adirondack Mountains and they're fantastic! They're comfortable yet very functional. There are a ton of pockets on the pants which are great for all the little gadgets on the trail. The extra reinforcement on the knees doesn't make the pants feel bulky, they are still very flexible.
