They're Pants.

  • Fit: True to size

Nothing fancy. Just good, solid pants. As others have mentioned, they will come long. Don't freak out; it is normal. Be ready to tailor them though...procrastinators might find these thrown to the back of a closet.

The material is kind of suede-ish; so they are a magnet for lint and hair. I have 3 dogs, and these pants reminded me of them every time I pulled them out. Fret not-overtime it becomes less of a problem. If you have cats, forget about it; these might not be for you.

Overall, solid pants...but, while I love this brand, you can get a better bang for your buck on some of their other pants. I like that I can wear them to work without people looking at me like I'm a weirdo (like they do when I wear me Keb Trousers).

Pros: tough, solid, length made to be dialed in, comfortable
Cons: material attracts lint and hair, pricy, some people may not like raw length

Great Utilities!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 33"34" Mens (37" inseam)

Fine utility trousers, hard to find in my size. With all the pockets, makes a pocketless -shirt no problem. Great for under waders. Cost extra to have them tailored.

Great pant, but material not for me

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 32

I love Fjallraven and all their products. I love the G1000 original material. But the G1000 silent just isn't for me. It feels like a thick, kind of stiff piece of felt, and it picks up every piece of pet hair I touches. It's soft and comfortable, just not what I'm looking for in a hiking/outdoors pant. I wonder if the material changes after washing. I guess I'll never know .... Fortunately, I can just return these thanks to backcountry.com's great customer service and stick with the original G1000 that I love (Vidda or Barents Pro)
btw, as for fit, these are a bit slim. But that didn't change the sizing for me. I have slightly larger than normal quads and wear a 32x32 pant. I ordered the 32; while they're a tiny bit snug, I know from experience that they will relax a little over time. So I wouldn't go with the 34 unless you want a really relaxed fit. Oh and don't forget that the leg length is extra long because these need to be hemmed.

Great Tailorable Pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: EU 50

These pants are a great, durable choice with decent water resistance. If price is your major consideration, make sure you allocate some money for tailoring. The legs of the Ovik pants have raw hems, meaning that they are much longer than would fit a normal human. This is to allow you to tailor the hem to your personal preference. Additionally, the pants are sized in 2-inch increments according to US size standards. It is better to order a size up if you are between because the Ovik can be easily taken in to adjust for waist size. Just be aware: while some companies add stretch to facilitate activity, Fjallraven has made the Ovik fit loose to do the same thing. These aren't yoga pants or running tights. I am 5'11" and 172 pounds. I ordered the EU size 50 (US 33-34) and had to get the legs hemmed and the seat taken in about an inch.

The G-1000 fabric is light and should be perfectly adequate for any temperate climate as long as one is not out in the dead of a northern winter. Treating the fabric with Greenland wax, which is an easy process, will add much to the water resistance.

Way too BIG

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

I have purchased 3 other pair of Fjallraven pants and they all ROCK! I was stoked to get these and in the end the sizing must have been defective because they were HUGE! They were so long that when I stood they covered my foot completely and there was still extra fabric. In the end these would have been a great addition to the Fjallraven gear I have come to love, but the sizing was just wrong.

That's what "raw leg ending" means. Quite a few of Fjallraven trouser styles come that way to allow you to hem them to the exact length you like. Usually with hiking pants, you want them a little long...
