Not so different than your high school art class, the Five Ten Men's Verdon VCS Climbing Shoe fills the void with its precision-oriented construction and out-of-the-box comfort. Built to thrive on technical single and multiple pitch climbs, the Verdon VCS is equipped with a slightly downturned toe, medium heel tension, and gently asymmetric profile that when combined encourages confident edging on even the most sheer or shrimpy micro-nubbins. And thanks to the Verdon VCS' Stealth C4 rubber sole, you won't think twice when given the opportunity to cruise up slippery, "no feet," limestone. The stiff, molded thermoplastic and EVA midsole ensure there's no room for negative space (or attitudes, for that matter) while the breathable perforated tongue and leather upper assure a comfortable microclimate for your feet throughout your climb.

  • Lined leather upper stretches up to a half size
  • Hook-and-loop closure
  • Molded thermoplastic midsole with EVA fill
  • Stiff
  • Stealth C4 rubber

A Solid Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had them for about a year and a half now, mostly used inside, but they've preformed well outdoors as well. Fits a bit looser at the same size as the 5.10 Anasazi VCS, and I would have liked the sole to be a *bit* firmer.

I got a somewhat sized up pair of these to do a big link up because I needed something that would give me performance and all day comfort. We climbed something like 34 pitches with maybe 4 of the pitches being close to my limit, and I never felt like the shoe held me back in terms of performance, nor did I feel that it was uncomfortable. I also love the lace up for those 2 reasons, but If I was going to climb in the Verdon or Portrero these would be my go to for performance and easy removal.

    Great shoes that don't last

I loved these shoes. I have only worn them indoors and blew through them in two months ( I only climb 3-4 times per week).

      Great shoes that don't last

This damage is characteristic of foot drag.

Have to agree with Erhan B.
The Verdons use a relatively thick piece of rubber on the sole. I thinks it's more than 4.0mm of C4. And C4 is one of the best rubber compounds on the market. Durability is one the properties for which C4 is widely praised. Plus, that location inside the toe box area is exactly where you see wear from toe drag. I've been using Sportiva shoes for many years. I bought my first pair of 5.10s, the Quantum lace ups, about 10 months ago. And I've been using them in the gym, outside, and even for a few bouldering sessions. The quantum is similar to the Verdon, in that it's a stiff somewhat aggressive performance shoe designed with a bit of comfort in mind, and they are still going strong. And I climb 3 or more days a week. You might consider sizing down, as toe drag isn't always an indicator of poor footwork, so much as it just means you need a smaller shoe.

      Good, but didn't last

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I appreciate the wide fit of 5.10 shoes and have owned a few other styles. I loved these shoes at first, but they are showing unusual wear and have only lasted a fraction of the time I'd expect. Would recommend 5.10, just not this style.

      Quality is suspect

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Size Bought: 10

I only used these for 5 weeks indoor, doing both bouldering and lead climbing. The left toe has a half inch hole already, and other parts of the edging looks to be coming off, as well. Great performance and comfort. I wear a size 11 street shoe, but the 10 was perfect after wearing them in. I wish they would hold up better and they'd be great! Now I'm working on returning them, if still possible.

      Favorite Outdoor Shoes

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 8

These shoes quickly became my favorites for outdoor use. They are less aggressive and more comfortable than the arrowheads but still perform well. I have found that 5.10 and Evolv are the only shoes that fit my feet, and I own multiple pairs of both. I use the Evolv Shamans in the gym, and the 5.10 Verdon's for outdoor use on single pitch sport routes and multipitch climbing. If you are looking for something more aggressive, go with the Arrowheads or even the Shamans. If you want something to wear all day outside that still gives confidence on the wall, try the Verdon's. Sizing was different than my other 5.10's (for reference, I wear a 8.5 arrowhead, 8 Verdon, 8 Shaman, and 8.5 evolv spark).

      Unanswered Question
