Rogue VCS Climbing Shoe

Five Ten designed its Women's Rogue VCS Climbing Shoe for beginners who want to transfer what they learned in the gym to the outdoors with ease. Built with the same last as Five Ten's Stonelands series, this shoe has a naturally relaxed foot position so you can learn how to climb comfortably without the constant discomfort of downturned climbing shoes. The Rogue's upper material is made out of split grain leather that conforms to your foot while you climb for a glove-like fit, and it has a uniform give and natural breathability. This shoe uses two hook-and-loop straps so you can put it on and take it off with ease. The outsole uses Five Ten's classic Stealth C4 for excellent edging and high friction that'll keep you on the greasiest of holds in the gym or on natural rock.

The technologies used in the Rogue work toward keeping your foot both snug and comfortable. Its Active Arch Technology ensures a consistent position so your foot won't slide forward in the shoe, and the Comfort Range Slingshot wraps around your heel to secure the back of your foot so you can develop your skills and techniques.

  • Split grain leather upper material
  • Women-specific fit
  • Hook-and-loop closure
  • Active Arch Technology at arch
  • Comfort Range Slingshot heel
  • Stealth C2 sole

Great shoes, awesome service

I got two pairs for my roommate and myself starting at our true size but the reviews said they run small so I was prepared for some curveballs. In the end we had to send them back twice, ending two whole sizes up. Customer service was super helpful but no refunds are made until the return is received so a lot of money is tied up currently. Would have been easier to aim larger then work down.

The shoes are high quality, the toes have a good point and just a little support. I really feel like they are gonna hold up well for our needs.

    Great Shoes

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got these for my wife who is a beginner climber. They are great shoes and they get the job done. The Stealth rubber is super sticky and grips onto everything. She wears a 9.5 street shoe but got these in a 10.0. Her forefoot is pretty wide and the 9.5 would have been a killer to break in. If you have a narrow foot, I'd probably recommend staying true to size as they will stretch a bit.

    Great gateway shoe

This shoe is not too aggressive but enough so that I feel like I can really push myself as a fairly new climber . The rubber has held up well. It does dye your feet purple the first couple times you use them but that goes away quickly .

      Solid first pair

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 9

A flat, nonaggressive shoe, perfect for newbies. This shoe is pretty soft and sensitive with very sticky rubber. It is fantastic for smearing and my foot feels every hold. Not a very strong edging shoe but it definitely gets the job done. Its flexibility and lack of support help my feet get stronger and my footwork get more precise.

When choosing my first pair, I was between these and a synthetic Evolv shoe. Actually the Evolv felt a bit more supportive but I chose these due to experienced climbers preferring the rubber 5.10 uses.

My street size is 9.5 but I went with 9s. I've got a pretty high volume foot and these worked great, especially after they've stretched some.

After 10 months with these bad boys, I've split my toes and had to upgrade. My Rogues will be missed :(

Great review Anna! Thanks so much for the helpful feedback :)

      Very comfortable

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 6.5

I have only used these for a few weeks indoors. They have stretched a little and are extremely comfortable. I can wear them all day long. They are quite flexible so if you're looking for something aggressive, these are not it. I do think the toe can get a little bit slippery compared to other shoes I have owned. I normally wear a 6.5 or 7 and I went with a 6.5. If I had gone with a 7, they would have ended up being too big.

      Multi pitch/crack shoe?? YES

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for a friend and this what she had to say.

" I really have enjoyed having these shoes. They are a comfy fit form multi pitch and crack climbing. I like the colors on them. The velcro is also very beneficial because they are easy and fast to slip on and off."

She normally wears a 8 street shoe and she went with a size 8.5 for a more relaxed fit for long days on the wall and crack climbing.

      Multi pitch/crack shoe?? YES

I just bought my second pair

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I love these shoes, size down because they do stretch. I have a narrower foot and they fit well. I have a larger size that I like for trad climbing. I could wear these shoes all day.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I'm just getting into climbing and I like these shoes because they fit well and don't make my feet cry out in pain. I've used them at the gym and outdoors. I wear between a 7.5-8 in normal shoes and bought an 8 in these and they fit perfectly.

Sooo comfortable, great to train in

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 6

These shoes are the most comfortable pair of climbing shoes I own. The other shoes I own are the 5.10 Anasazi LV Women and 5.10 Blackwing mens (older model).

After you break them in, they are ridiculously comfortable. I went with my street shoe size. It was painful for the first couple of months but now they feel amazing. These will stretch a full size after a few months.

These are very soft shoes. By soft shoes I mean the entire shoe is soft and doesn't offer much support. These shoes are not great for edging and sloppy footwork, so if footwork is your weakness you might want to look elsewhere. Or you can use the softness to your advantage like me and just climb in them all the time so it forces you to use proper foot technique. I definitely can't get away with sloppy footwork in these like I can with my other shoes. Training in these most of the time has definitely improved my feet.

I've had these for 4 months now and I don't see any signs of major wear and tear, but then again I store my shoes correctly, limit my time walking in them, and I don't drag my toes :)

Btw I see ladies at my gym crushing v6+ in these shoes

Lastly, these shoes are not made out of material that produce terrible odors like other climbing shoes.

      Great All Arounder

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

These shoes don't feature a very aggressive profile, which can be great for certain climbers. Climbers looking for an all around shoe will like this one, it's comfy enough for long multi pitch routes, it features a rand that covers a portion of the toes so it can be used for crack climbing, but has that awesome 5.10 rubber that is great for edging on technical routes. This shoe would be best for anyone looking to get into climbing or looking for a shoe that isn't too fierce but still offers great performance.

      Comfortable, Wears Quickly

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This is my third or fourth pair of climbing shoes and they're by far the most comfortable I have owned, from day one. No painful days breaking them in as the leather is soft and thin. As others have mentioned, they wear quickly, especially if used in the gym or shoved into big cracks - mine started to fray and the rubber started to peel from the edges.

I love them for long days on the wall or cragging days climbing cracks or slabs. I would definitely recommend these to anyone as their first pair of shoes as they aren't nearly as painful or aggressive as other shoes I've owned. That being said, they're a great addition to a serious climbers 'quiver' of shoes as well.

5.10 rubber is some of my favorite and I love that the straps of these shoes go directly through the leather with grommets as I've seen straps get pulled off or rip before.

I wear a 5 or 6 street shoe, and have a 5.5 in these. They didn't stretch at all as my other leather shoes have.

      Comfortable, Wears Quickly

      Finger cracks and slabs

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This is a soft unlined shoe with velcro and low-volume sizing for fit and pointed toes. It enables good footwork without being painful, but it is not a powerful shoe because it is not stiff or downpointed at all.

I bought these for the gym, but put a hole in them in less than 2 months. I am hard on my gym shoes and I have a friend who has been using hers in the gym 2x per week for 6 months or more. They can work as a gym shoe, but they are not as durable as an Evolv, such as the Elektra.

I did find that these are excellent on finger cracks. I've worked on Sherrie's Crack (Yosemite) and Johnny Cat (Indian Creek) in them and loved them. They spooge into relatively small (#0.3-0.75 Camalot) cracks very well. Additionally, the rubber is sticky and because the shoes are soft, they give you a lot of surface area on friction moves so they are great for when the crack really gets too small or for full-on slab climbing.

Of course, they underperform on overhangs because they are not stiff enough for you to get real power out of your feet in them. That said, I climbed Serengeti (Bishop) and worked out the moves on Ironman (Bishop) in them, so they can work for bouldering as well.

As for sizing, they run similar to other 5.10 shoes. I am a 7.5 street shoe, a 37.5 Elektra, a 36.5 La Sportiva (Mythos and Miura Lace-ups), and I am a 37.5 (7) in these shoes.

      Five Ten Rouge VCS

random video with a great 360 view of the VCS!

        Dancing shoes.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

I loved these shoes after my first climb. Slipper-like fit, super snug but the unlined leather means it conforms to your feet and will continue to do so, so it will get better and better with time. I have a few pairs of climbing shoes, some that are quite aggressive and some that aren't, but I found myself really enjoying these for those days that you don't feel like crying. I find that these are a great relaxed-position shoe (no claw-like hooks needed here... I don't climb v8's) but still has a super tight fit and pointed toe so you can feel and grip onto the tiniest little ledges.

I would recommend these kicks to anyone who's looking for their first pair of shoes, especially if you have oddly shaped feet because of the ability for the unlined leather to stretch and conform to them.

I've found FiveTen's climbing shoe sizing works great if you just stick to your street size- I wear an 8.5 womens' street shoe and the 8.5 in this shoe fits great, very tight with just a bit of toe-curl. I wouldn't recommend downsizing.

        Dancing shoes.
