The Fizik Aliante R1 Saddle with Carbon Braided Rails is a lightweight and durable saddle that doesn’t sacrifice comfort. The Aliante R1 has been a favorite among every stripe of cyclist, which makes it the perfect choice if you’re searching for a new saddle type.
The Aliante R1 features Fizik’s Bull shape profile. The Bull saddle shape offers a saddle with a larger, deeper pocket to accommodate less flexible riders who rotate their pelvises forward when they ride. The R1’s body also includes the TwinFlex foundation, which offers a more forgiving interior to cushion your perineum with a stiffer outline to guarantee support. Fizik uses carbon-injected nylon for the R1’s TwinFlex body, making it considerably lighter than the R3 which uses glass fibers.
To save additional weight, Fizik uses braided carbon fiber for the R1’s rails. The braiding is tough as well, providing a new level of strength against both the clamping force of your seatpost and the load the saddle bears — making “rail failure” a thing of the past. To finish off the R1, Fizik uses a black Microtex cover that will keep your saddle looking good season after season.

Saddle preferences are particular--everyone's butt is different. I was a happy and long time user of the Aliante Gamma, so I thought the Aliante R1 would be a light weight upgrade. For me, this saddle initially felt too hard and a little narrower. This seat made my sit bones numb. After reading a bunch of reviews online, I tweaked the angle of the seat and found a sweet spot that I liked. It's not as comfortable as the Gamma, but if you stick with it and find the right setting, you can be happy.
