Nighthawk Climbing Shoe

The work week takes up more time than you'd like to admit, but you still find enough time to get a climb or two in before sunset, and there's always the gym if you clock out under a night sky. Whether you're climbing outside—sport or trad—or inside, the Evolv Men's Nighthawk Climbing Shoe is choice. It's an Evolv all-arounder, designed for plastic, face, slab, or even crack if sized appropriately. The Trax SAS sole is Evolv's best rubber when it comes to friction and durability, and the leather upper has enough rubber and synthetic overlays to reduce unwanted stretching.

  • All-around climbing shoe for gym, sport, and trad climbing
  • Trax SAS rubber is Evolv's best for friction and durability
  • Leather upper conforms to your foot's shape for a custom-like fit
  • Synthratek VX upper overlays and VTR 3D rand drastically reduce stretch
  • Moderate asymmetry pushes pressure to the toe for a performance ideal for intermediate climbers

Great Climbing Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 12

Just joined a climbing gym and purchased this as my first climbing shoe. It is comfortable and grips the walls well. Build quality is high and I expect the shoe to last a long time. Definitely recommend true-to-size or going up a half size.

Nighthawks FTW

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 11(46)

I typically wear a US size 10.5 wide in boots and shoes. I need a wider toebox so I've struggled with finding shoes that work for me. I got some nighthawks, tried them yesterday for 4 pitches and loved it. Grippy stiff rubber. Comfortable and aggressive enough for 5.9 and 5.10 climbing. If you have these same wide foot and toe box struggles and don't feel like you need a super aggressive shoe, these may be the ticket, and the price point is good too.

Basic, well-built shoe.

Evolv designed this to be a general purpose shoe and they succeeded in producing a true all-rounder which should suit the needs of most anyone just getting into the sport and more intermediate climbers.

The Nighthawk is flexible enough for climbing slab, stiff enough that the sole provides some leverage on vertical walls, the edge performs well enough to start breaking into more technically demanding grades, and the Trax rubber feels grippy both on the rock and in the gym.

The fit is very comfortable for me at a half size up from street shoe though I suspect they’d offer a little more performance if I wore them smaller.

    Best Beginner Shoe!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've been dabbling with different beginner/intermediate climbing shoes to get back into bouldering. The rubber is sticky and the shoe is adequately comfortable to get used to climbing all day. I wear a size 8 street shoe and the size 8 Nighthawks worked great! Will definitely try these out again.

    Effective Beginner Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These were the 1st climbing shoes I've purchased, and have used both indoor/outdoor. They have a fairly flat bottom which makes it comfier compared to a more aggressive shoe. And as a beginner climber, I definitely appreciate it. I haven't had any issues with them either, and would definitely recommend for someone who is getting into climbing.

    Great shoe - tight fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Using these on the wall I have noticed the following. Great edge hold, tacky and supportive. However my D width foot was not happy in the narrow confines of this particular climbing shoe. That coupled with a pressure point on the big toe has me looking elsewhere.

    Narrow Feet Rejoice

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I tried this shoe out and it overall has a great fit for someone looking for a climbing shoe that will work well learning and growing into the sport. I have a wide forefoot and i just wanted to include that these feel very narrow to me, similar to Sportiva's. I tend to find my comfort in 5.10 Anasazi's or or Black DIamond Aspects which are very similar to this shoe but with a slightly different fit that is better for mid to wide feet.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Being a beginner climber these were great. Not super uncomfortable and I could climb all day in them. Laces were nice to get the perfect fit and they seemed just aggressive enough to slay the slabs and cracks I was climbing.

    Comfy, Solid Shoe

Used these for a weekend trip down to St. George and had no problems with them at all.

Comfy enough to stay in all day, performance is fine for beginners and intermediate, great price point too!

      Comfy, Solid Shoe

      Excellent for beginners!!

I started climbing a few months ago, I figured I needed some shoes to start but I didn’t want to spend a ton of money since I’m just starting. I found these shoes on the web page and for the price I thought It would be a good start for me since I’m just learning. The fit is super comfy and they have helped a lot to get practice on the wall. Highly recommended if you are looking for some shoes to start out !!!

        Good fit, poorly made...

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These were purchased as a gym shoe I didn't mind trashing (Personally save the good shoes for outside). I ventured away from the Italians (La Sportiva, Scarpa) to see what Evolv had to offer. Initially they seemed great because they fit my foot really well. All Five Ten shoes don't fit my heel, so I was a little worried these would be the same. These basically fit and work like the La Sportiva Finale which is great.
After 3 uses in the gym the heel started to peel. I've put many shoes through the wringer and only after a year or so does that happen. Luckily Backcountry is the bomb and took them back no issue, but I would've been curious how long they would've lasted me.

One note is I climb well above the 'beginner' level so these would most likely work for that, probably up to V4/5.10.

        Looking for comfort

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Older guy with bad foot. Tried these on and found left foot to be very snug and within tolerance level, but my right foot was over tight due to arthritis in big toe joint. I normally wear a 9.5 which these are. Guessing I need to size up and try again. Like the quality and design, but I may also need to go to a less aggressive style.

        First time using Evolv!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have loved using these shoes! I'm a size 12-12.5 (normal sizing). I used the size 12 and loved them! They are well built and gave me great grip for toe holds!
I especially loved the laces that went all the way down the shoe. I was able to adjust the fit a ton more than usual!
If you are looking for flat foot shoe then this is the one for you! Great for slab!

        Super, super, super comfy

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

If you're looking for a good gym shoe or something to throw on when kicking it on a mellow top rope route in the late afternoon, these guys will do the trick. They don't perform like something more aggressive but your feet also won't be throbbing after three seconds of wearing them. If you're looking to sacrifice some send for max comfort these guys are the move

        Send, or chill, in comfort

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

For $80 getting a lace-up shoe, this shoe delivers all-day comfort, and performance to get you up whatever pebble you're wrestling or route you're sending. I'm usually a 9, got these in a 9, but you can downsize easily if you want.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just getting back into climbing, these shoes have been great. The fit on them is snug without being to tight and the grip on them is awesome. I normally wear a size 11 street show and went up to a size 12 in these.

        Good Shoe

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought these shoes for my son and he says they are super comfy. He's been in some pretty tight, uncomfortable climbing shoes as his feet have grown and he likes these the most. You can really dial the fit to your foot with the laces although they are not as easy to take on/off as velcro.
